This will go down as one of the most incredible screwups in recent campaign history, and it happened because brain-fried Republicans like Ramaswamy can't imagine that voters don't actually want politicians to be gigantic assholes. My latest at Public Notice: www.publicnotice.co/p/vivek-rama...

Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing. They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.

The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.

Important to remember that the legal profession will never take the lead on Supreme Court reform. Its leaders have too much invested in the notion that the Court is fundamentally Good and Right, and that solving for the real-world consequences of its worst decisions is someone else’s problem.

Lawfare@lawfaremedia.org

"Court-packing would create a slippery slope to the destruction of judicial review...To the extent Callais is a problem, it can be better addressed by steps such as banning gerrymandering. There are also better remedies for various other shortcomings of the Court," writes @ilyasomin.bsky.social.

You can always use the fact that SC just mandated non-partisan municipal elections. They did not do this for benevolent reasons.

Joey Fishkin@fishkin.bsky.social

Oddly enough, you actually aren't going to find a whole lot of nonpartisan elections in Alabama to test SCOTUS with. That's because Alabama is one of the few states in the nation with partisan elections down to the school board level. And why is that? BECAUSE OF RACE

This is an important thing to understand about the 1-2 step the Supreme Court engaged in to gut the VRA: they first said that partisan gerrymandering was bad, but there was nothing they could do about it in 2019. That paved the way for Callais. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/power-demo...

What's so infuriating about this headline and SCOTUS blinkered jurisprudence is both pretend not to know why voting has *always* been racially polarized in the section of the country that 1) allowed racially-based enslavement of people and 2) started a bloody war to preserve that system.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

The courts did not end the "racial districting game" - they ended the last legal means to maintain reasonably representative democracy in states By first blessing partisan redistricting, they turned racial districting into a type of affirmative action that reactionaries would support eliminating.
