Oh I get it, anthropic is like a picture of an ape that nobody else can own

jess m. ☕🍂@jametc.bsky.social

anthropic's exploding lol it went public, we find out the company's debts are like $650 billion dollars. It's valuation was based on like a ton of IOUs. a week ago those IOU holders were selling them off. in china right now, the bubble is very much popping and $450 billion vanished overnight. hm

Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Now that @desertbus.org prizes are up, here are the finished photos of my craft for this year! Very happy with how it turned out. desertbus.org/2026/prize/1...

But it did cause a lot of private data to be harvested, so, who can really say

Ofcom published a report today that pretty much declares the Online Safety Act a complete failure

Snap-bought this book based on recommendations in this thread, just finished it today, loved it. Outstanding writing.

Annihilation always makes Halloween lists, so I thought I'd do a thread of creepy reads. Starting today with a flat-out modern masterpiece, Max Lury's No Ghosts. Thoroughly contemporary and disturbing grounded in deep characterization, and, in part, outdoing Back Rooms while also its own thing. 1

Imagine posting this out yesterday and then looking at today's PHP-related security news.

When clips from the first shows start coming in, we always see people wishing they'd known about it. Don't miss out, there's not long to go! www.thelongestjohns.com/live #TheLongestJohns #UKFolkMusic #Milwaukee #USTour #LiveMusic

Where are we at on Critical Reflex? There were the abuse allegations last year but I never caught how that ended. They still viewed as dodgy?

This is why “Ai looks bad” etc isn’t a helpful argument longterm, because eventually there will be one that fools you (like Minesweeper fooled me). We just don’t want it, it’s bad in so many ways. We don’t want it, even if it looks OK!

AAAAAAARGH why do they keep shooting themselves in the foot like this? Stand down, soldiers. (also why do I *consistently* fail to check before sharing?)

Accidentally Right-Clicked On A Webpage and Now There's Nowhere To Left-Click To Clear the Popup Without Clicking Through To a New Page: the true story

I feel like the people going "simply ban/remove their revenue - problem solved!" don't really get how big a problem legislating that would be. It's all self-reporting at the moment, so they'll just stop doing that and hope to fly under the radar

Then we're down to accusations and reports from players to get things delisted, which has famously never been abused before. Point is that, no it's not a simple action, we would need something better and enforceable with as small a margin for error as possible.

Still thinking about it: this game genuinely dislodged emotional responses that I've not had to a video game in a *long* time. It has been longer than I can remember since I've sat there with a controller in my hands feeling truly exhilarated.

This is Edmund selling out everyone for a bit of Turkish Delight

Wow holy fuck what a shit in principle but also at least have some selfworth and ask for more than an hour of time off for betraying your entire field www.verticalslice.news/rockstar-acc...

They're going to push for this to be a message of hate, aren't they. They want it to be a crime to say "protect the dolls"

Everyone does the "I've got some magic beans to sell" bit, like we all forgot they were actually magic. They grew into a massive beanstalk. A giant lived up there. Those are some pretty magic beans

PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.

A definite sign of ageing is that you cannot impress me with "over 20 years" anymore. Am I expected to think this sauce is ancient, because it's as old as Nelly Furtado's Maneater?

Oh

I'm sorry, an AI guy telling you "The wool is being pulled over your eyes" while simultaneously owning a huge ass yarn factory will never not be funny. You're literally part of the problem my guy.

It does appear the "data center eliminated Nazi and otherwise fuckface bots" narrative is basically wishcasting, it does show you how popular getting rid of this shit would broadly be, and that maybe a smart person should run on it.

Kate Starbird@katestarbird.bsky.social

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.
