Yet again, everyone is removing any agency and accountability from Moyes, who famously exerts a lot of control over transfers within the 'committee'. Yes, he was screwed over by TFG at the end of the window, but why did we wait til the last minute to buy a right back, or a striker? Why no left back?

Trump’s DOJ has charged James Comey AGAIN, this time under the Espionage Act over a 2016 New York Times story. In DOJ’s own words, Comey had staff talk to a reporter to “correct misinformation” in a Reuters article.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Comey: Well, they're back again. It would almost be funny if it weren't such an appalling abuse of the DOJ. One that we cannot become numb to. Nothing's changed with me. I'm still innocent. I'm still not afraid of these people. And I still believe in the independent federal judiciary.

It's not often that there are positive days in politics. But Lula winning in Brazil is absolutely seismic, and students turfing out the right wing government in Serbia is also brilliant news. Andy Burnham is openly talking about rejoining the EU, and London's Oxford Street is being pedestrianised.

I know they are contesting it, and I know that they did an awful lot to sway the election in their favour in the first place, but this is the great thing about democracy. (So far) there hasn't been a coup, and Bolsanaro knows he lost. We don't live in Westeros. It's genuinely a beautiful thing.

So much to say about Brazil, not least of which is the role that Erika Hilton, a Black trans leader and most voted woman politician in Brazil, played in mobilizing folks for Lula. She was behind the critical, concrete, economic promise of shorter work-week. theprint.in/feature/erik...

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

After having thought (constantly) about this for days now, one thing that sticks out for me is that you get to know the real, raw, balls out in the wind person behind the public persona for 3 different people involved in this move. And none of them are Elizabeth Holmes.

In Brazil, it appears that voters who opted for eliminated first-round candidates roughly broke even in the runoff (even if the candidates leaned right). But the big difference was: Millions of voters who cast 'null' or 'blank' ballots in the first round then voted for Lula.

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.
