The very idea that we might be able to discuss something reasonably, loses, 82 votes to 12. I'm not a bad loser, I'll take that. But the lesson is, some social media might be better than others, but it'll always be full of cvnts.

Can we not have nuance? Wouldn't you rather this were a place were you could voice a thought and have it explored, rather than shouted down?

Excellent piece of work:

Luxury retailers want taxpayers to fund a 20% tax break for foreign tourists. They paid consultancy Cebr to claim this will raise £2.6bn for the UK. That convinced Sadiq Khan and Kemi Badenoch. But it's false: a free lunch. Four basic errors mask a £600m loss. Thread:

If Ed Sheeran had a pair of gonads he could have done something incredible there. Instead, he's cacked it like a babby, and taught a legion of onlookers that it's better to kiss arse and take the coin.

The arrogance of claiming ownership of a word that forms part of your name, when you chose it *because* people already use it. Maybe Air Canada should sue Airbnb for cheapening THEIR brand - the stupid, rip-off cottage-hawkers are not even up in the air. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Likely to become even more raw as more people realise that a change only affecting people in England and Wales was defeated by MPs from Scotland and Northern Ireland! If it had only been voted on by MPs whose constituents were affected, it would have passed.

Still a lot of raw feeling among supporters about the assisted dying bill being voted down on Friday. Not much they can do about it for now, but interesting to see talk already of making further attempts to legalise it. International experience would suggest the debate will return before long.

It IS antisemitic to conflate Judaism with the state of Israel, but it's a ripping wheeze when it benefits those who support the state of Israel. This is a long read (due to the quoted interview), but very good, as usual, from @brokenbottleboy.bsky.social. Worth your time.

Just opened Miro for the first time in a little while to find that it won't let me just draw a diagram, it wants to me to hang out with its little chatbot friend. So I ask it to draw three concentric circles.

Can we make a collective decision to boycott software that adds a shortcut onto the desktop whenever it updates, even though you deleted the shortcut previously? I've made a handy hashtag, to help spread the word. #BoycottSoftwareThatAggressivelyAddsDesktopShortcuts

File associations exist for a reason. Show me the person who opens Adobe Acrobat and then navigates to the file they wish to open, and I'll show you somebody who would be better off without a computer.

Today, the president met with Zelenskyy, a war hero, and Netanyahu, a war criminal. The former has to repeatedly justify the need for military aid, while the latter receives it unconditionally. This moment will be remembered as a test of America’s values — and how we failed it.

Me: How do I edit the httpd conf file to make Apache load PHP 8.5? GPT: PHP 8.5 hasn't been released yet, so you can't. Me: I have to disagree, I just downloaded it from php.net. GPT: You're right, it has been released. But you can't install it, you instead have to edit http conf to load it. 🫠

Due to enough people asking I’ve also added a version of this with a smaller chest placement of the badge www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/Se...

It's easy to see why Elon Musk elects to incite violence and hatred over the events in Belfast and Southampton: billionaires have got a lot of skin in this game. The broader tragedy is that we're too dumb to join the dots, and that the media chooses not to do it for us.

I enjoyed this very much; Deya have long been at the forefront on strongly-hopped pales, so I wasn't surprised by how good it was. Soft and deep is the best way I can describe it. I may be biased, as it was a gift from a loved one. But I don't think I am.

You can't tell me that Port Salut has an inedible rind. Not in this day and age. Sure, at one time it was covered in a weird, waxy netting, but not any more: all that remains is an annatto-stained memory of its former swaddling.

Anyone who received their postal ballot today in the South of Scotland region, please be aware that "Independent Green Voice", which appears second on the list on the peach regional ballot paper, is NOT the Scottish Green Party. This is in fact a deliberate vote spoiling attempt by right-wingers.

I don't understand Trending on Bluesky. 'The Pitt' is trending, which seems unlikely when it's Friday morning in the UK, and still only 7am in New York. Is nothing else happening? Top Gun is also trending, but when you click that, not a single post says "Top Gun", yet every one includes #thepitt 🤷

I've no idea if this is true, but I'm putting it here in the hope that it is, or that someone has the time to check. I don't get Reform flyers, but I'm going to write the address on a couple of old trainers and see if I can fit them through the post box slot.

Dependence on fossil fuels is a national security issue which SHOULD be crystal clear after the oil/ gas crisis following the full invasion of Ukraine.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power — not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.
