Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I honestly believe that after receiving a political awakening from Baby in Dirty Dancing, a radicalised Johnny Castle eventually evolved into Bodhi in Point Break almost 30 years later.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

People on the next table talking about going to see Wicker. ‘Olivia Colman was great in that show where she was married to a vicar” “Rev, it was called, starring Tom Holland’s dad. ...now I wonder if the entwife thing is a 1930s Oxford professor looking around the faculty meeting thinking "Wow, kind of a sausagefest in here."

Debbie Moon reposted

As I've said before, it's only once I became a professor that I realized the entmoot, a meeting that goes on for three days and three nights, was a professor's joke about faculty meetings.

The Lord of the Rings is essentially a series of faculty meetings broken up by several long walks in the countryside.

Here's an idea for editors, let's do a little roleplay. Writer: "I have a contrarian take!" Editor: "Is it fucking stupid?" Writer: "Well yes, but it bucks the consensus. No one else is saying it." Editor: "Is that because the consensus is correct?" Writer: "... yes but... " <hang up>

Really enjoyed WILDWOOD, which has shades of Labyrinth and Narnia but is very much its own thing, and is appropriately clear-eyed about the failings of adults. I'll even forgive those terrible pitched battle tactics... Note that it's a 12A and probably too scary for very young children, though.

Yeah. When you think about it, it's stunningly easy to get people to like and admire you. Why are the super-rich incapable of it?

crazy how badly elon wants to be liked and he thought fascism would do the trick. if I were a billionaire with an “unpopular in high school” complex i’d be solving world hunger and leaving $1,000 tips on every meal. he is fumbling the easiest game in the world right now

Bilbo: “Sod you then. I’m going to Greggs for a sausage roll.“

Bilbo offers to take the Ring to Mordor. ‘It is plain enough what you are pointing at. Bilbo the silly hobbit started this affair, and Bilbo had better finish it, or himself.’ Gandalf gently refuses his offer. Bilbo asks if the Council can please adjourn for lunch.

One happy story in this - a friend was entering a novel competition, was devastated to find she’d left a typo on page one. Agent judge said “oh it was fine, instantly gave me confidence it wasn’t ai”:)

Because it was ProWritingAid's "donation" that kicked off the whole NaNo "no, no no, the plagiarism machine is GOOD actually, and if you don't let it steal your work you're ABLEIST" thing, so far as I recall.

Debbie Moon reposted

So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text? Do I have that right?
