in the current state of the industry, please don't hesitate if you're able to support indie devs & creators

"Cities should include in the contracts an insistence on making sure that the public is protected. Don’t let the venue operator charge excessive fees to residents. Don’t let the venue operator only have the venue open to the artists that they promote."

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

Fighting to save an IP instead of fighting to save a creative team is how you go from Empire Strikes Back to The Rise of Skywalker. The creativity, design, and intention behind the thing is what matters, not the IP itself.

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Videogames is the creative field where creatives are least recognised, most of the time their names are hidden away on the finished product. This is obviously deliberate on the industry's part but the audience enables it when they fail to care about the people who make this stuff.

Caitie@ghildirthalen.bsky.social

sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off

Remedy please, let Dylan craft a googly eyes artifact and let him stick them on the Aberrant 🙏

I believe that if your company undergoes layoffs during a set amount of time after a sale or acquisition, there should be some kind of massive financial penalty or forced restitution. You can afford to buy a company, but you can’t afford the staff? Then you can’t afford to buy the company.

"unable to complain" is just so, SO telling, to me

John Michonski@john.gamesline.net

Reading this Famitsu interview Uchikoshi did and it seems that the reason the Crash Keys game was canceled was because *Uchikoshi* wanted to use AI, not the publisher. This snippet is driving me nuts. Makes all the posturing with Hundred Line read extremely shallow.

NEW: Skydance Corp, the new owner of Warner Bros Games., has today informed staff that they will be required to work in-office five days a week. In the email announcing the policy, the company also rolled out a 'Voluntary Buyout Program' to let employees "move on in a way that works for them."

We knew that something like this was going to happen within this rotten partial monopoly making deal. Why others don’t see the dangerous possibilities, I’ll never know.

just saw this graph and its another Y axis crime. there is only about a 2.5% difference in revenue between the two over a comparable sales window since launch (which is fantastic for a sequel!) but you would never know it with the fuckass Y axis starting at 392.5M instead of 0. They're SO close!

I THINK one of the things we're really seeing is a continent, maybe industry-wide shift away from full-time employees and towards gig/codev work. And that transition looks like layoffs across the board even from studios that just had big successes.

During the brazilian elections we learned one obvious but important tactic to defeat the far right on the Internet and I think everyone should know it: IGNORE THEM! DON'T ENGAGE WITH THEIR CONTENT! DON'T MAKE CONTENT REACTING TO THEM! DON'T HATE QRT! LET THEM ALONE IN THEIR BUBBLE!

Since we’re beyond the two week window I’m now going to try to quarantine myself in our house to lessen the chances we get sick before our big trip
