One month after Donald Trump demanded that the public adopt his preferred terms “SI” and “super intelligence,” right-wing outlets including Fox News, Newsmax, and even Breitbart continue to use “artificial intelligence” and “AI.” www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/tru...
bush was the warmup to trump. the only difference is bush and rove dressed it up to sound more palatable with things like compassionate conservative etc. the underlying bile was the same. trump just said "fuck it, lets be animals" out loud.
and they love him more than reagan for it.
I am kinda a “You can See everything“ hater but stop with the it’s not a documentary stuff please I’m begging you Don’t make me guilty by association here
The Devils was to be a one-week-only release, launching WB's new indie-ish and rerelease label Clockwork (which will purportedly survive the Skydance purchase). But it's done such big business ($2.3 million in five days) that it's staying in theaters. If you can, see this wild piece of film history.
Just saw the restored, NC-17 version of The Devils. 55 years later, Ken Russell remains A LOT, for better and worse. But OMG, Vanessa Redgrave. One of our greatest actresses 100% committing to a part that could have been camp. She and Derek Jarman's production design lift this into the stratosphere.
Even in a movie I basically have memorized, every single thing Nicholson says or does in THE DEPARTED stands out as SO memorable, it is absolutely crazy
realized that ppl who were pouting about Digger giving “no solutions” to the problems it was bringing up are raving about You Can See Everything which has an equally impotent surrender at its conclusion. The “Aww you’re sweet/hello HR“ dynamic
The president *needs* to take a cognitive test on camera to show us how good he is at it. I want to see how good he is. <tears in my eyes> Sir sir please let me see you do so well at this test
Oliver Reed on the Merv Griffin show with Orson Welles and Charo where he talks a lot about his love of hamburgers... with everything on it.

had a nightmare I was at theranos and telling everyone “it’s all just flim flam! you’re being duped!” but no one believed me and then I screamed awake and went oh thank god it’s just a dream and then checked my letterboxd and saw 5 stars across the board for You Can See Everything and said OR WAS IT
A spectacularly good, fun, smart movie—it runs everything from lowbrow pleasures of the flesh to highbrow thinkies (and highbrow nudes, and lowbrow theology!) Its reputation as scandalous provocation has never been sillier; something like Game of Thrones is wildly more vulgar, and less rewarding.
It's DEVILS Day and if you live anywhere near these theatrical engagements, you need to see it with a crowd. @jessicakiang.bsky.social — like Vanessa Redgrave, caught up in the rapture — has our review, a gorgeous piece of writing. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...
new tik tok trend called The Anecdote where you stand up during a movie at a random time and tell everyone in theater “on his first night in Canada while filming David Cronenberg’s The Brood, Oliver Reed was arrested for walking back to his hotel from a bar completely naked”
Last night I was supposed to moderate a post-film Q&A with Michael Rooker for HENRY. But he decided he'd rather do it before the movie, prob due to the late start time (9:45). Fine by me!
So we're talking, he's enjoying himself, and after about 15 minutes he says "What if I talk DURING the movie?"
Car washes leaving MONEY ON THE TABLE not doing extended, After Dark washes for stoners and neuro-atypicals. We could do theme nights! "A Cybertruck of Oz" set to chiptune Pink Floyd. Of COURSE there will be Hummer limo orgies
COVID’s legacy is widespread, untreated and unacknowledged anxiety about the fragility of society in the face of forces beyond our control and, yes, this is a symptom of that
I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'
DIGGER is set to potentially lose Warner Bros. 1/4th of what they just paid out to David Zaslav but the thing about DIGGER is it's a good movie ppl will be watching for decades to come whereas Zaslav is just this dopey dickhead who ruined a movie studio & now gets to keep living like a filth pig
Is there a work of art that was created well before the current era that you feel explains Trump and MAGA and everything better than anything contemporary? For me it’s Assassins (1990) but I’m curious if other people have one.
The money pit restaurant I would open as a billionaire would be the opposite of farm to table. What are the most unnatural flavors possible? Hiring top food scientists, giving a blank check and telling them to really explore the dark corners of the flavor latent space. I want to taste eternity.
Just got out of a critic screening. In the multiplex lobby, 10 people in their late teens or early 20s were having a spirited conversation about the movie they just watched. Grinning, gesturing, arguing, agreeing. Love to see that! I ask what the movie was. It was DIGGER, which I'm seated for now.
