My pt is yes we can pick out fake news videos today. We can trust our experience today. We’re going to rely on companies to be trustworthy even when lies are cheaper? Where will trustworthy news come from? Freelancers we know? Through what channel? How will they eat and travel? With whose money?

David Rolfe@dorolfe.bsky.social

Enabling the destruction of trust at scale and speed seems bad tho. Even people with good epistemologies are going to have a hard time when there’s no reliable custody of evidence. Where will we be when all human sensation is subject to a gish-gallop of BS generated faster than discarded?

In other words: we have a year to resist and then these Epstein class bros will take their enshittifying machines and sod off. Good to know.

The utterly sociopathic entitlement of these tech freaks. Nvidia, Microsoft and Cisco has given the UK government a 12 month deadline to quash public outrage over data centres, or they will... flounce off with their debt? Go on, then. Off you fuck. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

there’s no such thing as “strategic bigotry.” I know this because there is no amount of money you could pay me to become a bigot. the democrats who do this agree to do it because they’re bigots

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

i can see an argument that at some point mass prosecutions of these guys might actually engender a backlash effect. i think you can just start with a peace deal with iran that involves turning over hegseth to them to answer for the children he killed and then going from there. it will have an effect

In a functional country, we would just regulate who could send us text messages or commercial phone calls, and at what times with laws that had consequences for violations. While we’re hypothesizing—enforcement mechanisms could also be made to be just and uncorrupt. It’s just choices.

The solution is pretty clear, just convict the pardoned individuals maybe even in absentia, and then murder them, and then pardon the murderers in an ongoing cycle forever. At some point, the leftovers will see this is bad and stop.

Brandon Friedman@brandonfriedman.bsky.social

Do not recognize pardons granted to unindicted individuals. Democrats must make it clear — well before inauguration of the next president — that Trump administration staff will be investigated and potentially prosecuted regardless.

Sure theres concentration camps where people are being caused to die, ie killed, ie death camps, BUT I’m not in one and I’m not dead. I guess that IS a relief!

What’s “fun” about this is a big enough abuse of power might lead to real pardon reform. Or the next damn president can just say they’ll pardon everyone that murders a Congress person and see how far limitless pardons goes.

Scoop: White House lawyers are weighing preemptive mass pardons for junior staff, sources says Under discussion: Pardoning everyone involved in deportation, war, or trade policy www.washingtonsun.com/whitehouse/w...

Maybe it shouldn’t be legal to have a trillion dollars. We could just decide that. That’s all laws are.

David Rolfe@dorolfe.bsky.social

Wonder how much money you need to just buy everyone who might say something bad about you? Clearly less than $1,000,000,000,000.

The “every accusation is a confession” thing is maybe overstated but when it comes to Republicans and “sharia” it is unquestionably the case that the people trying to impose their religion on others through the legal system in the US are not Muslims bsky.app/profile/qasi...

Remember how all the space nerds were like, man we can't let them do a starlink -- those constellations will fuck up ground based astronomy forever. Well it just got stupider because we let them do a starlink, but now it's being used to wage geopolitics, so every country needs its own constellation

So instead of one country fucking up the night sky, every country with a space program will have to fuck it up more. No one manages orbital space, so this problem solves itself eventually with Kessler syndrome. But not after a lot of pain and expense.

a fairly new type of brazen lie is to post a lie with a link to a video that categorically disproves your lie. this was pioneered by terfs who would post like "watch me get ASSAULTED by trans radicals" and the video just shows people milling about at a protest.

Again, the scandalous thing about Elon Musk spending $276 million on the 2026 midterms is NOT how *much* money it is. The scandal is how *little* money this is *to him.* Compared to his net worth, this is roughly equal to the median American my age spending $40.

Part of the answer to "how did we get here?" is that many major journalists—since 1998, Crawford has covered SCOTUS for PBS, ABC, and CBS—are lying bigots. Here Crawford is praising a guy who asked a dumb racist question, glitched out when asked why, then admitted he wanted a Christian theocracy.

If and when we have a proper liberal democratic restoration, do you seriously think that the people who've lent Elon Musk billions upon billions of dollars in spite of his open white nationalism are going to suddenly bend the knee to President AOC just because she has the nuclear football?

How do we let open white supremacists live in the White House?? It's fucking wild. This is not fed posting. Congress could do something about this. Republicans in congress, if they gave a shit. If they weren't fans of this shit. Cowards or nazis, I guess.

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.
