Doctor. Owner of Furry Little Evil II, a derpy Australian Pied Lap Slug (aka “domestic short hair”). I block anyone who annoys me; feel free to block me as I don’t care 😊
Climate disaster keeps disastering:
Satellite monitoring has detected massive plumes of methane pouring from Chevron's Gorgon LNG plant in Western Australia.
(This is the one connected to the world’s biggest carbon capture and storage project WHIICH IS ALSO FAILING)

Elon Musk
Just what an incredible fall from grace…
From innovative, eco-conscious, cool nerd…
To depraved, entitled, evil, war-mongering, self-radicalised fuckwit.
Got home and turned on the TV.
The national broadcaster, public TV, song videos, introduced with ”anyone who’s on LSD will enjoy this one“. Followed by a historical electronica vid which is… pretty hallucinogenic.
The other public channel? Content advisory for an advertisement.
We’re ok 🤣
Browsing #Netflix. Do they realise films were made before 1973? At least old-school video rental shops offered classics going back to the silent era, as well as healthy art, avant-garde, and world cinema sections. I discovered so much that way. There's a narrowing, rather than widening, of culture.
Remember when I told you that the trigger for the screaming reactionary backlash wasn’t e.g. public anger over Black Lives Matter: it was the personal terror of a bunch of rich arse-grabbers, watching Harvey Weinstein get dragged to jail unprotected by his wealth
JK Rowling: hello children

Somebody said "They voted for racism and got poverty"
The thing is... social scientists and economists have been saying for the last 50 years
Racism is austerity
It was such a relief when @meanjin.bsky.social was saved by QUT. I was humbled to be asked recently to write a short article for them about how it feels to be someone who loves birds, now that bird flu has reached this continent. You can read the article here: meanjin.com.au/latest/hope-...
Very strangely the 10 trade unions calling on the government not to approve the Rosebank oil field are getting a lot less coverage today than the one trade union calling on the government to green light more fossil fuel projects. www.businessgreen.com/news/4537337...
1/ Nature is in peril. Drastic declines and specialist species struggling is what the Wild Bird Indicators, using BTO data & published by Defra, show. Here’s what we know ⬇️
The All Bird Species Index shows 19% declines in the UK since 1970. This comprises 132 species. 📉 #Ornithology
"The amount of fuel Russia could export is too small, the impact on pricing too slight, the narrative too late to shape electoral outcomes: This looks, instead, like something very different: an abrupt, Hail Mary attempt to force Ukraine to surrender"

Can confirm. I reckon my cat has spent probably a year and likely more on my lap or in my arms, cumulatively; it is a great pleasure.
I selected the one kitten in the cage that was interested in me. Fell asleep in my arms on day 1… on my lap now.
New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.

Far from taking pride in it, the men who killed this magnificent animal should be deeply ashamed. That swift, sleek, wonderful monster, flashing with holographic colours, reduced to a dead black lump.
www.devonlive.com/news/devon-n...
the average lifespan of outdoor cats is 3 to 5 years. indoor cats regularly live to 10, if not 20 years. imagine personally shaving off 3/4 of your cat's life because you're too stubborn and lazy to take proper care of an animal you're responsible for
will say it again:
the most effective way to curb far right agitators like Lowe, "Tommo" et. al. would be to stop their ability to earn money for it from social media or live streaming.
So much of it is grifting for revenue, not attention.

Here's Rupert Lowe MP's payments from X Corp over the past year. This man is making serious cash from Musk's platform.
Payments surged over the summer, during UK 'unrest', and when Musk was frantically re-sharing Lowe's posts...
Bleak, lucrative work if you can get it.
Like, how hard do people think bombing a bunch of unarmed civilians is? Or shooting children? Does not take high level military skills (quite the opposite).
As a footnote, if a mechanism exists to deprive ANY group of civil rights—no matter how reviled they are, and by however many—then that mechanism WILL eventually be weaponized against YOU.
You do not have to be trans or pro-trans to be against deprivation of anyone's rights.
(PS: I am pro-trans.)
Trans rights is inherently a bodily autonomy issue. Just like abortion rights is. We can't have gender equity or reproductive freedom without trans rights. Full stop.
You can yell at me and make up shit that you claim I've said if it makes you feel better. I don't care. I'm right. And you know it.
I hate doing the "a rollback of trans rights is the gateway for a rollback of women's rights" thing because trans rights are human rights in and of themselves, whatever the impact on cis women.
But goddamn I wish more cis women had a sense of history and self preservation.
The accounting is in: In Oregon there are 111 data centers. The TOTAL number of people employed at data centers is just 2,630, or 0.1% of the labor force.
Those 100 data centers consumer 23% of all electricity used in Oregon.
Meanwhile, electricity rates skyrocket as more centers are built.
Yep.
For example, climate change is going to kill a lot more humans than AI.
Anti-vax eejits might not get to the same numbers, but war, anthropically-induced famine, and fascism may well make up the numbers.
And then there's late-stage capitalism.
Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him.
His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time.
I sued them for wrongful termination and won.
So yes, I know that motherfucker.
Other well-known Dockers’ fans, including fellow musicians John Butler, Peppa Lane and author Tim Winton, have added their voices to the Get Off My Chest campaign, urging the club to “call time” on the fossil fuel sponsorship.

1/ Donald Trump's order to stop the use of Canadian goods in US federal procurement threatens to have a massive impact on the US defence-industrial base, which is heavily dependent on Canadian inputs – especially raw materials such as aluminium.
"If we had started this transition 40 years ago, maybe there was room for these delaying, slower tactics to reduce emissions."
"Carbon offsets should be the last option."
