Let me tell you a story about the politics of Australia: Over the last 28 years generally, but over the last decade particularly, I've done a lot of politics outside of Australia. Last week, an organisation I work with called me in for a meeting mostly among people like me around the world /n

Appropriate that the Qld Premier is wheeling out Stoker just in time for #Halloween. She's a real fright and shouldn't be in any government role.

#StevenMiles : #AmandaStoker said #abortion shouldn't be available even for women who have been raped, she said sexuality was a choice. Now #DavidCrisafulli has appointed her the LNP's minister responsible for #LGBQTIA+ policy, the prevention of domestic & family violence, and child safety #AUSPOL

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

It's more likely to force the LibDems out of power. It's highly unpopular locally as market towns, which rely on footfall from local villages, don't want high-end luxury rental flats (for London workers) in place of a carpark. It feels more like useless councillors manipulated by a crafty developer.

In Huntingdonshire the LibDem administration is looking to sell off the main carparks in 3 market towns to C&C so they can build high end luxury flats. For people in surrounding villages, with no public transport, the lack of car parking will be another reason not to shop on the high street.

Fair comment but my point is really that it's more sustainable to shop in the high street than to have small packages of things you can buy there wrapped in cardboard and delivered to your door.

Two smaller towns in Yorkshire - Beverley and Northallerton - have bucked this trend to the extent that people travel to them to go to the high street. Both have a pleasant walkable environment and distinctive shops - some chains as well as independents and smaller arcades for smaller shops too.

Trump's willingness to enter a trilateral summit with Putin and Xi plays right into Moscow's core geopolitical fantasy: a Yalta 2.0 where great powers carve the globe into spheres of influence. Symbolically, it would be a huge victory for the Kremlin

45 years ago today, on 26th October 1981, Queen and David Bowie released “Under Pressure”, a single which would rapidly climb the charts in the weeks to come. The song was a collaboration between both artists that grew out of a jam session in Montreux, Switzerland. A day in music history indeed.
