AES' response to Tommy is a solid text for illustrating how the warrant functions in a rhetorical argument.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

Elon Musk is despicable. Because he is a crazy white supremacist, he killed hundreds of thousands of people in Africa by having his DOGE teens cut aid for food and medicine. And because he is a crazy authoritarian, he has now killed Ukrainians by hindering their ability to anticipate air strikes.

It’s so telling and pathetic that center right pundits can’t just admit that Biden was a normal president and Trump is profoundly abnormal. Your political party sucks dude! If you were serious about democracy you’d be telling people to vote for Dems, not drawing false equivalencies.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Lie. Biden definitely wasn't "maxxing out" on "illegal immigration." Immigration activists denounced his policy as too draconian, and Dems tried to pass a hawkish immigration bill. Similar point re: Starmer. NYT thinks the op-ed page is for publishing lies, at least if the lies are right-wing. 6/x

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

You can feel whatever kind of way you want to feel about Biden but he passed the biggest climate bill in world history with the narrowest legislative majority in U.S. history where the deciding vote was a literal coal baron, this framing sort of necessarily arises from either ignorance or mendacity

Not true. In their list of grievances, the Founding Fathers complained that King George III was blocking colonial laws that would promote immigration and make it easier for foreign settlers to become citizens.

people talk use "democrats" as though that word has a coherent referent. whatever that word refers to would be much stranger and harder to pin down than the Ship of Theseus. in almost all contexts, it would be more useful to choose a more specific term.

Republicans voted down an amendment to block Trump's $1.8 BILLION slush fund for violent insurrectionists. They're choosing to bend the knee to this corrupt President who wants to pay off cop beaters—all while Trump & Republicans won't spend a cent to lower health care costs.

50 Senate Republicans just blocked a measure that would permanently stop Trump from creating his $1.8B slush fund for J6ers

The lesson here on how to cow the political media is straightforward: be a tyrant, and do it openly. Suddenly your awful ratings are transformed into strength and not weakness. Instead of merely being an unpopular politician, you are boldly defying gravity, muscling past critics with sheer will.

It’s one of the thing that pisses me off the most about this administration is their open contempt of every institution and tradition we supposedly hold dear. I’ve been to the Arizona, it’s supposed to be hallowed ground, not some freaking tourist attraction

It'd really be nice if ALL outlets talking abt shooting conspiracies emphasized that Donald Trump repeats conspiracy theories in most statements he makes >5 minutes long (and did, in the 60 Minutes interview last night). If the President lives in conspiracy world, it's unsurprising others do.

PBS News@pbsnews.org

There was a steady stream of facts from myriad reputable media outlets — hardly an information vacuum. Despite this, unfounded conspiracy theories from both the left and the right proliferated, chief among them that the shooting was staged. https://to.pbs.org/4udjfrg

We did! We passed a bill to fund the Secret Service and TSA and FEMA 100-0. If Speaker Johnson would just call it for a vote, it would pass. That’s the problem.

This is a good statement, especially since it points out that Republicans are the ONLY ones who can actually "do something". They control the house. They control the senate. They control the courts. And it's time voters stop enabling them by pretending they're immune to pressure. They aren't.

House procedure is normally a snoozefest that only insiders care about. But this one is just such a perfect distillation of the incompetence in the GOP, failure of Trump as a leader and weakness of Mike Johnson. Let's roll the video tape:

I think a lot of people get very broad ideas in their head that they're sure would make sense if they could just write them down. They don't realize that in the process of trying to write actual sentences and paragraphs, they end up discovering lots of inconsistencies and unjustified assumptions.
