We optimized draw calls by 99% (lol) in Hidden Folks 2 by writing some tools to find all textures used in a level, generate a level-specific atlas, and replace individual texture references with atlas textures. Thread below 🧵👇🏼

hey folks! I'm putting together a "What's new in Android" presentation for GodotCon, and I'm looking for interesting uses of the #Godot#Android editor to highlight.
Let me know if you built / are building something cool using the Android editor, or if you have a cool or unique #godotmobile setup!
Our second GodotCon in North America is right around the corner! The schedule has been announced so we thought it would be worth highlighting some of the official updates and talks that will take place during the event:

I hadn't posted it here, but I'm looking to found a game studio with an artist and a programmer in Germany, ideally in NRW, in case anyone is interested!
It's not easy to find, because it requires a good amount of industry experience, the ability to lead, and savings to apply for more funding.
Our second Mac beta is packed with small improvements. I wrote up the details on our UI changes:
We did bring a new feature. We licensed a third party asset placer to help you build worlds and ported it to SwiftUI:

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors.
AI has made the problem much worse.
That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors:
godotengine.org/article/cont...
We would like to thank Battlefield Studios for the Corporate Platinum sponsorship. Thanks to them, we will be able to continue improving the engine for everyone, and welcome new users who are creating custom Battlefield maps using Godot + Portal.
fund.godotengine.org
I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI.
TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded.
As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions.
Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.
Made some editor tools for testing edibles. Made a shader that distorts/discolors food so that I don't need to create special meshes and textures for EVERY cook state of EVERY item.

#GodotEngine 4.7 is here! 🎉
Like a cult classic movie, Godot 4 has only gotten better with age; the 4.7 Director's Cut offers colors of never-before-reached intensity, helming a bevy of new features to eliminate any remaining friction between you and your vision!

At AWE, Google and XReal officially showed the new XReal Aura glasses running Android XR
The recently released Godot OpenXR vendor plugin ensures great support for this device. We recommend using the upcoming Godot 4.7 to get the most out of these glasses

We are looking for volunteers to help translate GABE, details in the issue description github.com/godotengine/...
The app has very text and there are only about 15 lines to translate, so it should only take you about 5 minutes :-)
I've reworked the wisps, you now have to call them instead of running into them, and they now orbit Hana 💫
Besides that I've also given them some visual love with more glow and a trail ☄️

Two months in Godot and it's great. The integration of script, objects, signals and how well they work together means I'm writing and extending gameplay code and shaders (badly) while doing art and design work. Things seem so much faster for dev but it could also be our small multiplayer project.
Announcing: Hidden Folks 2
- New themes and areas.
- Improved graphical quality.
- Second (not text!) clue.
- Lots of new mouth sounds.
- Various quality-of-life improvements.
- Made in #godot.

In theory, yes that is exactly the sort of thing shader templates was build for. However I think it's important to manage expectations here.
This is a feature with potential high risk (and high reward).
There's a godot PR that will give you nearly unlimited shader customizability at high maintenance cost. It will allow you to implement a lot of new effects that godot can't do now and fix a lot of current rendering problems without a need to fork the engine
It will be a very important PR for godot
