“'You Can See Everything' is a hilarious, thrilling, fascinating, beautiful piece of art. What it certainly is not is a documentary, and it’s dangerous to pretend that it is,” writes Theranos whistleblower Tyler Shultz. https://bit.ly/4Bk2nDJ

SCOOP: So remember Dialog, Peter Thiel's private society that doesn't have a public website and no public list of members? I (along with a number of other journalists) have just been tipped off that embedded in the code of their closed off website there IS what seems to be a list of some members.

at the risk of reinforcing my own priors about who in this rush is digging for gold and who is selling the shovels, i will note that nvidia and microsoft have very specifically pitched their high end chip products announced this week as good for running agents and models locally

new: last week, the cook county board signed off on sheriff tom dart's request to nearly double the size of his flock license plate reader network. it came despite revelations the agency worked with the controversial company for years without an agreement and as other cities are ditching the tech.

Man if Instructure doesn't have something like the 3-2-1 backup strategy they are really hosed.

so the email from the college admin asking us to download everything in case we are able to log in to canvas implies 1) nothing is backed up, and 2) they have no idea whether/when it's coming back right? lmao. i have no access to any of the grades i gave all semester. means everyone gets an A, no?

Security folks: have we considered *not* releasing security patches for the avalanche of bugs we're about to deal with? Hear me out. Given how much faster it's getting to reverse engineer an exploit from a patch and that we're expecting to fix *so* many bugs at once, maybe do a full release.

thoughts on today: 1) the protests are good, actually 2) you should go to one of you can 3) it will do you good to see how many other people also hate this guy 4) you might meet people who you can organize with 5) there are more of us than there are of them 6) we are going to win

being a carless american is awesome. financial harm caused by rising oil prices won't directly effect me, and secondary effects aren't something we are trained to think about. when the time comes i'll just blame the rising prices i do experience on supernatural causes. maybe goblins

ICE “left” Chicago in November, but they’ve disappeared three people from my community in two days this week. Don’t believe the hype about them, leaving Minnesota, either.

This story mentions "Oak Brook Gateway" in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook as one of the buildings in which ICE is supposedly planning office space. Oak Brook Gateway is managed by Fairbridge Partners LLC. I tried to contact them, but the only email listed on their website bounced back as invalid.

NEW: ICE is leasing offices throughout the US as part of a secret, months-long expansion campaign. WIRED is publishing dozens of these locations.
