Trying to figure out whether I’m legit excited to play Saros, or if I’ve just read too much hype recently and now it’s lodged in my brain. FWIW Housemarque’s last ps5 title Reternal ruined me for other consoles. *The haptic triggers are just so nice.* Every console needs them going forward IMO.

“I must consult with my court” says the king. In the empty court is a great machine, and about it many masks. He asks a question of his war counselor, and the machine assumes one mask. He asks the advice of his treasurer, and the machine assumes another. In every voice, it lies. He does not notice.

Fellow #fullstack #web eng: are you using much AI for development yet? Tried full on vibe coding? What tools/services have you used (how often, and to what success)?

It would not be the worst thing in the world if Bluesky became known as the social media site people just hung out at and enjoyed themselves with

Penpot is looking pretty good! While there are a couple of small things missing that I'm used to in Figma (*cough* component variants), I have confidence they're building in the right direction.

There's definitely enough there already that I'm planning to move away from Figma (who just raised prices) when my billing cycle ends. You can't beat free (for single professionals anyways) / self-host-able!

2025 is seeing me explore alternatives to some of the established tools in my set. I've long considered Adobe Suite and Figma as essential. But in this economy? I'm rethinking any subscription services in favour of "license once" or FOSS options.

The industry-wide push for AI despite its flaws is in part because it allows control over a narrative. Don’t think for yourself, let the LLM feed you the facts. AI is a fascist propagandist’s dream.

Century+ duration electronic data preservation is in fact an unsolved problem, but magnetic tapes set read-only are as close as we have right now. This is a massive, active research problem at Amazon, Google, Microsoft, others. www.microsoft.com/en-us/resear... Some tape can be replaced, not all.

microsoft.comProject SilicaProject Silica is developing the first-ever storage technology designed and built from the ground up for the cloud, using femtosecond lasers to store data.

LTO-9 tapes are 18TB, cost under $100 each, and last for 30+ years making them the most efficient cold storage solution on the market, which every competent IT professional knows, but no im sure you can just dump all of that essential data in some shitty budget cloud storage service lmao

Not quite the same scale, but if tech communities such as Rust are purporting to be global, then they shouldn't hold their marquee conferences in the USA either. Tech conferences there are expensive (plus American are most able to afford to other places) and are now even harder to get to.

There is absolutely no way the US can host the World Cup or the Olympics

This is the broken-brained white American mythologizing that made a TV show called “Happy Days” that took place during Jim Crow.

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

This is an example of how nostalgia for the old days is simply nostalgia for when you were younger. The idea that America was a post-racial society in the 1970s/1980s only makes sense if you were literally a child at that time and couldn’t observe what any adult was experiencing.

one of the most important things to learn, if you're out there doing things: you don't get to talk about it. you don't get to brag about it, you don't get to tell your friends, you don't get drinks bought for you in the bar off the story. it's *always* shut the fuck up friday

Again, I'd implore my colleagues in the media to stop using euphemisms around "diversity" and "anti -DEI". And start saying that this these efforts are racial and gender purgings. That these efforts are segregationist.

To bring around another point: Technology won’t solve problems like this because the problem isn’t lack of technology. It’s also not lack of empathy, so don’t even go there. bsky.app/profile/ashl...

Ashlee 🤟🏻@ashleemboyer.com

I don’t like this at all. blogs.nvidia.com/blog/ai-sign... I’ll quote myself: “To suggest that AI is needed to bridge […] gaps is to suggest that there aren’t human experts already out there capable of doing so. It devalues an entire body of expertise.” ashleemboyer.com/blog/how-to-...

How I quickly set up my essentials on a new mac: - `xcode-select --install` to get required build tools - Run the homebrew install script - `git clone` down my dotfiles and logseq notes. - `brew bundle install` everything else - `cd ~/.dotfiles && stow git mise tmux neovim zsh etc`

Whoops: it's `stow -S foldernames`. I put my config for each shell command/tool into `~/.dotfiles`. Then from that dir, I can just `stow -S [toolname]` and my files are all linked. If you haven't managed dotfiles/symlinks with gnu stow before, you should check it out.
