just have to lean into the cliché that when people ask me what they should see right now my answer is "you should really check out this 11-hour Russian documentary"

I wrote about My Undesirable Friends, a portrait of a nation's nosedive into fascism that is gripping, unsettling, and scarily relatable.

This is really, really cool. The URL *is* the document. So you can effectively do word processing in your browser... without it leaving your computer. Or... you can send it to others *in the URL*. This is really fantastic.

The details about how and why the diesel deal and the supposed ceasefire came about are a distraction from the obvious— Trump again squeezes Ukraine to try to help Russia. Just as russia prepares to widen its war in Europe because the campaign in Ukr is stalled, he tries to give them a boost.

BlueSky is literally just a public test bed for the actual product, the underlying protocol. We're posting on the $1.50 Costco hot dog.

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

"Second, we are witnessing an extraordinary transfer of power away from governments to a handful of private corporations and individuals. Their reach now extends across politics, economies, information flows, technological development, and the civic space on which societies depend."

By moving to the “center,” Democrats have failed to fight the forces that led us to Donald Trump: widening inequality, economic insecurity, and the unchecked political power of corporations and the rich. Political centrism is nonsense. There is no middle ground between democracy and oligarchy.

If you’re elected to represent the American people, you shouldn’t be able to use information you get on the job to make yourself richer. In the U.S. Senate, I'll fight to ban congressional stock trading. Public office is about public service, not personal gain.

Exactly right! Cutting through all the misinformation, the root of many of our problems is crony capitalism on oligarchic steroids. A group of billionaires really is trying to extract maximal wealth and don’t care who gets hurt

Dan Ancona@danancona.bsky.social

It’s all just extractive capitalism. They want to keep burning oil, keep strip mining culture for their LLMs, either keep people from moving or limit their rights if they do, AND keep their taxes low. That piece puts it together, and how we can reject it, very well. Happy fuckin Labor Day.

Write it on the blackboard a thousand times: they will have to demolish the ballroom, the arch and so forth. They will have to make a show of it. You will get the usual sons of bitches saying we don’t do that in this country. We do now. That is not emotion, it’s politics. To do less is dereliction.

We’re talking here about Col. Josh Gaspard, who parachuted into Bashur during the 2003 invasion as a 2LT, then a year in Afg, then company command in surge-era Iraq. His Columbia degrees aren’t even in the “woke” social sciences, they’re in industrial engineering and engineering management systems.

So funny watching the media try to write 2000's era Grand Theft Auto Outrage articles now that the whole country is a casino run by murderers.

195. A stunning intellectual and political achievement, a fully-formed depiction and imagining of what a truly anarchic society might look like, that has the self-confidence to take it to its logical conclusion, and address its flaws and faults head-on.
