JMS tells a story that when Koenig did his first B5, he entered the lunch hall/tent with JMS. Michael O’Hare called the company to attention, and JMS explained to a baffled Koenig that they were recognising him as a senior officer of Science Fiction.

El-Sayed on Trump's cognitive tests: "I went to medical school...In my neurology unit, I would have to give that MoCA exam...The only people that you give a MoCA test to are people who you worry may have cognitive deficits. By definition, if you're taking one of those tests, something's wrong."

I remember the first time I saw someone point out that if one company does layoffs, others follow simply because it's something they all want to do all the time (because employees are expensive) and they think others doing it gives them cover to get away with it That pattern has never failed me

I spoke to the mom of the 3-year-old soccer star who was left "thinking he did something wrong" after a league official called police "due to a disturbance between parents" The youth sports league said they launched a review and reached out to the family

RIP, and thank you ever so much for being.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

People in the US seem especially resistant to this idea unfortunately. Should be immediately obvious to everyone, but it’s largely the opposite

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

When and how do newborns see a face? @nmwilkinson.eurosky.social and colleagues identify a serious problem in how a foundational newborn study has been interpreted. But the Bluesky victory lap is leaving out a rather important detail: neonates track FACE drawings! bsky.app/profile/nmwi...

Dr Nick@nmwilkinson.eurosky.social

New paper! Accepted at Perspectives on Psychological Science. A textbook finding in infant psychology is that newborns - within ~1 hour of birth - visually track a simplified 'three blob' facelike stimulus further than its inverted control (see picture). This suggested inborn knowledge of faces!

Usually not a fan of out of context clips, but oh, come on, Doc. SURELY you saw this coming, right?

Just to be clear... Prop 40 is a ONE-TIME retroactive tax. It applies ONLY to billionaires and would tax just 5% of their wealth — which grew 30% in 2025. California's billionaires would still be worth $2T+ AFTER the tax. The revenue will fund healthcare for millions of Californians. Vote YES.

I picked up my copy in a NY bookstore in the late 90s for, I think, about $10. It's the fourth printing. also limited to 500 copies. Gorey died a year or two later and I hoped the game might become madly collectible, but it was reissued in 2015 and you can buy it on Amazon for under a tenner. But...

It's not that it turns out we live in a simulation, that we are all simulations, self-aware and thinking and feeling though we might be. It's not even that the simulation is shutting down. It's that it's shutting down because all the AI data centers we built use too much data. It's too stupid.
