Or well. Giving a fuck and then being rigorous about the work it takes to solve the problem.

🚨 BREAKTHROUGH: Scientists have created a sugar-coated nanoparticle that blocks COVID-19 from infecting cells with 99% effectiveness in lab tests. This isn't a vaccine. It's a decoy. And it could change how we fight viruses forever.

The reason you want an actual humanitarian aid system and *don’t* want to force everybody to rely on online mutual aid is because online mutual aid *forces people experiencing horrific trauma* to perform on the Internet for survival.

Forgive the biblical metaphor, but being expelled from the garden was traumatic and irrevocably changed the mental model for Adam and Eve. Do you envision some event that could dramatically alter the naivete of the simple consumer mindset? When people realize data is the currency?

B. Prendergast@renderg.host

A decade of walled gardens trained us to be consumers not creators. So telling someone they can “own their data” assumes they see themselves as a data-producing participant in a network. Most don’t. Their mental model is much simpler: people I follow; things I care about; where to find them.

the thing about having actual principles is that when a politician I respect does some stupid shit I can just be like, “that sucks, knock it off” instead of inventing an imaginary world where I’m forced to defend stupid shit for procedural 4d chess reasons

It's horrifying to be in the early stages of an era where an abstraction with so much value (data) is being pillaged, all while the vast majority have yet to understand what is being taken. It's not a shiny rock, or a patch of fertile dirt, but a concept with fuzzy boundaries for most.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

After destroying the U.S. foreign aid system, the Trump administration is now demanding multiple African nations hand over their citizen's sensitive health care data in exchange for life-saving healthcare funding. This is the data colonialism nightmare a lot of us were worried about 10 years ago.

Noticing, capturing, sharing these moments with others is exactly the solution for defeating the narrative of AI supremacy.

Interestingly, the intuition I felt and spoke from -- that embodied knowing -- is precisely the kind of thing AI, for all of its performative anthropomorphic gesturing at the simulacrum of personhood, can't do. Tech billionaires want us to believe that our embodied/human ways of knowing are useless!

"Anti-immigrant protesters". For a business that purports to communicate information, you are pretty terrible at doing so. Since when has it been ok to "protest" other human beings for who they are? And you choose to validate their immoral premise, @nbcnews.com.

NBC News@nbcnews.com

Hundreds of anti-immigrant protesters took to the streets of Belfast, with some setting vehicles alight, after police charged a Sudanese man over a knife attack that left one person with serious neck and head wounds.

Man, where does rage go? It certainly doesn't feel like it leaves my body. It just pools in my stomach. It radiates to my fingers. It flows down my shoulders and back like an unwanted cloak.

I still cant get over this. How you steal somebody's life... (he was 28 years incarcerated for a crime he DID NOT commit) He gets out, gets a law degree. Runs for office.... WINS... and then they steal the job

Louisiana Republicans have eliminated a city clerk position in New Orleans days before a Black man was set to take office. “It’s a sad thing to see the state government repeating what happened to Black public officials during Reconstruction,” said Calvin Duncan, who was set to take office Monday.

Today, right now, innocent and desperate people are being imprisoned, enslaved, and beaten by gangs carrying out online scams. Do you want your money to support this? Because when you donate to shady online campaigns, it very well might be.

Is a Senator who interferes with Capitol Police to break the bones of a Marine Corps veteran who's staging a protest subject to arrest for battery, or does that somehow fall under the Senator's constitutional privilege?

This cartoonishly childish Hegseth persona is an insult to the American military, the American people, the Iranian people, and just about everybody affected by this war. It is absolutely incredible, in the literal sense, that this man is at the hinge of the chain of command in this spiraling war.

Let me just make a few little adjustments to that title… “How a scientist with a PhD in Geology and 25 years of experience is helping lead California’s earthquake work” Way to devalue my experience.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
