What politicians do. If you as a politician in the UK aren't doing similar things to right obvious wrongs - Infected Blood scandal - Grenfell Tower - Post office - Veterans Nuclear Test - Chinook Crash etc. you aren't working for the people who elected you but for the donors that bought you.

Today is the 40th anniversary of bus deregulation. I’m considering celebrating the occasion by poring over copies of the pre deregulation Tyne and Wear timetables with that warm glow of memories of the days when buses always ran to time and there was seamless integration with the Metro……..

In case you are wondering about 80% of UK Company profits go to other countries or Tax Havens. So more than £450bn gets taxed at an average of just 13.2%. Which is the main reason taxes for Income are so high.

Why should a 25-year-old deserve the freedom to work across Europe, but not a 55-year-old starting a business? Or a 70-year-old wanting to spend more time with family? Freedom of Movement isn't a youth benefit. It's a freedom for people of every age.

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream, 1000 acre park and improved public transit, not only did it TRANSFORM the city’s public life and economic success, but the car traffic got better. The car traffic got BETTER.

FIVE Cobra meetings Johnson skipped at a critical time at the start of the Covid epidemic. His delay in instituting the first lockdown caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths. He should be in prison. Not being paid truckloads of cash as a columnist by our ridiculous right-wing media.

Yes. Hard to imagine a worse PM to have than Johnson during a pandemic. Didn’t he miss the first four Cobra meetings?

Everyday motonormativity. This morning I drop my daughter at the train station by cargo bike. I park close to the entrance, next to a parked van, and in the “shadow” of street furniture to not bother pedestrians. I come back 5 mins later to 2 security agents worried. While I unlock the bike,

The Covid Inquiry’s Module 6 report is devastating. Its central conclusion: adult social care was treated as “something of an afterthought”, while “protecting the NHS” sometimes came at the expense of people receiving and providing care. 1/10

Robert Campbell 🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇬🇪 reposted

This is damning. So much could could have been done at the time, with what was known about COVID, and with what what resources we had. It’s hard not to read callous neglect into these findings. And that intentional neglect was layered with lies - like the “protective ring” - which did not exist.

Kit Yates@kityates.bsky.social

The Inquiry’s overarching judgement is that fragmented responsibility, ignored warnings, poor data and inadequate planning created conditions in which Covid could spread “like wildfire”. Social care’s neglect was longstanding. During the pandemic, its consequences became catastrophic.
