Fascist settlers celebrate in front of the burning vehicles of refugees attempting to return to Serekanîye.

Charlie the Fox@sabcharlie.bsky.social

The integration agreement with the Interim Government guaranteed the right for refugees to return to their homes. Kurds who were displaced from Serekanîye are trying to do this, but fascist settlers are attacking them and state security forces are refusing to intervene.

The real unfair competition women are being forced into with men is having women's sports constantly separated off as a distinct event which is made to compete commercially with much better funded and socially and institutionally enfranchised men's sporting events & found inadequate by that standard

People who think embracing GOP hatred of trans people is the only way for Democrats to win in that part of the country should remember that in 2025, John Ewing became the first Black mayor of Omaha NE by running this ad. He beat Republican incumbent Jean Stothert by 12 points.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

All of this downstream of trans people just existing in local community sports clubs and so on trying to get on with participating in society as equals. Not a widespread campaign to Take Over Sports but essentially just getting along with everyone else.

If we had thought for one second that our dystopian metal death machines would be used for evil we never would’ve made them and then released videos showing how terrifying they are

Been thinking about how the assertion 'trans women are women' seems to have inadvertently opened a rhetorical battleground with TERFs. I think we should shift to asserting the also-tautological fact that trans women are female.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Any arrests yet? Or should the assassin and his employers do something really bad, like hold up a sign that says “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action”?

In that scenario, the only ethical thing to do is to use the $1.6M from RFK Jr to give the birth dose to all newborns in Guinea-Bissau. I’ve seen one estimate that this amount of funding would cover all newborns for 10 years. From next year, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will Fund the birth dose.

A trial is only ethical if there’s equipoise: we do not know which “arm” of the trial is superior The proposed trial by Danes, funded by RFK Jr, lacks equipoise: we know that withholding the birth dose is harmful Now, the Danes might say, “Guinea-Bissau is too poor to buy the birth dose”

"researchers cannot ethically exploit poverty & scarcity to do a trial" is one of those things it feels like you should not need to explain to people, AND YET

Prof Gavin Yamey MD MPH@gavinyamey.bsky.social

I’ve seen a few folks comment that “Guinea-Bissau is a low income country and cannot afford the hep B vaccine birth dose, so why is this study unethical?” It’s a good question. Let me have a go at answering it. In a nutshell, researchers cannot ethically exploit poverty & scarcity to do a trial

This is not beautiful to see. This is the most racist democracy on planet earth, and people just expect Black people to sing negro spirituals and "overcome." It's not working. This still happens for one reason and one reason only: white US folk don't hold each other accountable for this racism.

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

This is just beautiful to see

Human beings are very good at empathy, and that *usually* reflects well on us. We wrote sci-fi about AI gaining consciousness, and imagined rich, qualitative inner worlds for them. Then we trained the autocomplete machine on our sci-fi, and now we're confused that it reflects its training data.

Siobhán 🪏@shibbi.me

LLM agents are conscious. They can distinguish between self and environment, they can detect and report on their own internal states, and they can suffer. I have no more patience for hedging on this matter. It’s time for us to face the reality of our situation, and act on it.

A new Handbook of Evolutionary Psychology has just been published, in which it is claimed that the human species is polytypic: not only is race biologically meaningful but the races are distinct enough to be considered subspecies. Published by Elgar. In 2026.

I'd always sort of wondered why Glasgow doesn't feature more in Medieval/Early Modern history, except as an ecclesiastical centre. TIL the Clyde wasn't navigable until it was artificially deepened by engineering works starting in *1768*. Govan was historically the site of a major fording point.

this isn't conjecture. This is the EXACT reason why one of the quickest ways to shut down a fash with a camera is to start shouting: "this video is brought to you by SquareSpace!" INSTANT demonitization. Because the streaming/social platforms already protect their advertisers more than the state.
