Sounds less like a win for anyone and more like a loss for democracy. Which y'all should have centered your headlines around for decades

Is it a “win” for people to have their basic rights taken away? Like what do they actually teach when you get a journalism degree? Bc it seems like lesson #1 is to chuck all critical thinking skills away and just become a stenographer for the rich and powerful

you need to prove citizenship to register in NH so they are saying accredited Universities are allowing non-citizens using American citizens name to register for classes for the sole purpose of illegal voting? So every diploma in NH is worthless if Unis can't confirm identities (which they do)

The much more accurate way to write that dek would be to say “SCOTUS rules student IDs can’t be used to vote in New Hampshire, a Senate battleground state, in a loss for democracy and the concept of one-person, one-vote.” MEDIA DOES NOT NEED TO USE THEIR ANTI-DEMOCRATIC FRAMING.

Anti-democratic vote destruction is a "win"? NBC, like all oligarch-captured media, is an existential threat that needs to be destroyed. #BOYCOTTNBC

Weird way to frame this 10 days before an elections my guys, kinda just looks like election tampering from the highest court in the land, but what do I know I've never did whippits in journalism school

So the fascist six on the Court say allowing more people to vote is "two close to the vote" but altering districts to Republican advantage after early voting has already begun in the primary is not. Calvinball Rules!

Was the vote disclosed? Blocking changes too close used to be the rule until the rightwing block decided that only applied to decisions that preserved voting rights.

NH enacted a law to remove student IDs for voting back in April. Nonprofit grp took them to court and judge issued a stay on Oct 2nd. Emerg to SCOTUS which said that stay was too close to the election. Clarification: Unsigned, only Jackson dissented. There was no ruling on merits, only the stay.

This headline is all you need to know to understand what miserable bags of shit republican voters are. These scumbags would take away their own kid's right to vote if they thought it would save them $2 in taxes and get a brown person or liberal killed.

Quit telling me something is a win for Dems or GOP. Tell me if it's a win for Americans. Will this stop more ineligible voters from illegally voting? Or will it stop more eligible voters from legally voting?

resident students have a constitutional right to vote, even if they do not have another form of ID.

The ID isn't used as proof of voting rights it's used as proof of identity. Non-citizens can get driver's licenses as well, it's only valid ID to vote if you have the right to vote (which non-citizens do not)

Voter fraud statistically does not exist. The chance of any one vote being fraudulent is 1 out of tens of millions. Any attempt to "secure" voting is an attempt at making it more difficult for young people and black people to vote since theyre more likely to vote dem. It's a scam.

And one of the biggest failures of the democratic party in the past 18 years has been going along with the fraud that is the claim that voter fraud is a problem at all.

Good points. If only we had a court that recognized this very obvious reality, like a mediocre court, or maybe even an excellent one, we could call it something special, like the fantastic court, or the bestest court, or maybe, like supreme court.

14th Amendment Section 2: Any state that denies or abridges the Right to Vote shall lose Representatives and Presidential Electors.

Much like gerrymandering, this is going to backfire on republicans. The number of eligible young voters prevented from voting with a student ID is going to be dwarfed by the number of young people motivated to vote because the government is trying to take away their vote. R stupidity is endless.

Student IDs are not government issued if they’re from private colleges or high schools. I believe the fear is that out of state students would be able to vote in NH and absentee in their home state.

As usual, the GQP goes looking for a problem that really doesn’t exist. 18-24’s are the LEAST likely age group to vote and thinking they are going to go to the trouble of voting in two different states is peak silliness.

Fraud using student IDs is close to zero, so this is mostly about turnout. College kids lean left and move around a lot. The bigger issue is timing: changing ID rules less than two weeks before Nov 3 is how people show up and get turned away.

Remember when NBC News did journalism instead of bootlicking. It must be demoralizing to be so far on the wrong side of history.

🤦‍♀️…it’s a win for no one except those who want to destroy our democracy…so yeah I guess it’s a win for republicans

“Supreme Court rules student IDs can’t be used to vote in New Hampshire, a win for the political party that wants to destroy voting and murder democracy.”

So, out-of state students use what, their out-of-state drivers licenses/State ID's and be told they can't VOTE because they aren't from here? Maybe higher education isn't worth wasting your money on? So, CORRUPT SCOTUS SIX IS HELPING REPUBLICONS RIG ELECTIONS FOR GOP? ...1

IS THAT CONSTITUTIONAL, SCOTUS? ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL RULINGS CONSTITUTIONAL, SCOTUS? Violating the constitution CONSTITUTIONAL? BRIBES, FAVORS, GIFTS - ALL CONSTITUTIONAL, SCOTUS? ...2

WE NEED TO DO SIX IMPEACHMENTS ON DISHONORABLE SCOTUS OR WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO TRUST OUR GOVT AGAIN. OR, MASS EXITS OUT of the USA; then how will those billionaires pick pockets when they run the "pockets" out of the USA? AND NO workers to do/run things? ... 3

It is a pretty fucked up place we live in where a student ID is fine to buy a gun, but not to vote. I hate this hellscape we are living in.

Wouldn’t you expect all college students to have a drivers license or other form of identification anyway it’s not like you can use a high school ID to do much anything these days anyway

that's unusual, tho colleges all give out id and students use them a lot as their primary form of id most of us who don't drive don't bother with a state id until we graduate college ids aren't at all equivalent to an occasional high school giving out an id card

"a win for Republicans" that thousands of voters are suddenly required to find an alternative ID a week and a half before election day. Pretty on-the-nose that disenfranchising US citizens helps Republicans.

Everyone’s rightly dunking on the headline, but I think it’s also important to note that the judge they overturned was not “changing the rules.” He was just ordering the Secretary of State not to lie about what the law actually says. The law allows the use of student IDs in some cases!

Shouldn't the headline be "Supreme Court allows New Hampshire Republicans to continue to suppress voting rights"?

The Epic Fail-American president is a convict, child rapist, thief, russian asset and a pathological liar!!

It's a loss for America and a loss objectively, as "wins" for the GOP tend to be. Did i say "tend to be?" I meant every single effing time for 4 decades.

Well, you lot certainly seem to be all bought and paid for, much like your elections! I look forward to watching your "news" service being gutted when this is all over.....

This subject has been in the progressive circles for years. If there is still a student that does not have a government issued ID, shame on them; sorry to say.

This is why Democrats are such a failure of a party because of people like you. Instead of being rightfully outraged that one party is trying to prevent people from voting, you blame the people who aren't allowed to vote anymore

Really wish the subject in "progressive" circles had been "voter fraud statistically does not exist and lets call any claims of voter security out for the blatant attempt at disenfranchisement it is"

...ya know. Yeah. My criticism is dated. Just wish the dem opposition to voter security laws had been full throttle since 08 when the GOP and conservative commentators started making hay out of bullshit.
