Gem Coop recently published an update on the Gem Fellowship: gem.coop/updates/8/ We're explicitly trying to fund more projects this year. If you maintain an open-source Ruby project, and could use funding, you should consider applying when applications open on December 1st 2026!

gem.coopgem fellowship 2027Hello! It’s been a while, but we’ve been working on some exciting new stuff. Today, we’re very pleased to announce the 2027 Gem Fellowship. Last year, we sponsored work on eight Ruby OSS projects incl...

@intertwingly.net How can I learn more about any roadblocks to Sidekiq support in Roundhouse? Giving people the potential to choose their app runtime is super intriguing, removing the GVL for Sidekiq job execution is a massive scalability improvement for CRuby users.

We built uptime monitoring and check-ins to catch the issues that don’t throw errors. They’re included FREE in your Honeybadger account. Set them up in the sidebar of your Honeybadger page—you can be running in a few minutes. #devops

The performance difference between json 2.7.6 and 3.0.0 is noticeable in Sidekiq's load testing script (~21.0sec to 20.5sec, ~4-5%). That's really hard to do with mature software like Ruby; Jean's optimization work here has been stellar.

I'll probably release the final 3.0.0 version early September, so if you got time please try the RC1 and submit any feedback you may have: github.com/ruby/json/re...

Seeing houses and cars set on fire and people terrorized directly instigated by the guy that DHH said makes “beautiful” things happen. If you’re a Rubyist, tell the Rails Core team what you think about them being collaborators and enablers for this. Fucking disgusting.

If you need a script for getting your company off Twitter, I WROTE YOU ONE. Multiple people have used it, successfully, to explain the legal liability your company incurs by forcing employees to be on a platform with child sexual abuse material. I will help you use it. anildash.com/2026/02/23/t...

I've been a broken record on this for three years and I'll be a broken record for as long as that fucking website exists: X is a viciously racist far-right organising platform that ONLY WORKS because a huge number of centrists, lefties and progressivs cannot stop propping it up

I realized it has been ~1.5 years since I concluded my series of post on JSON optimization. So I got curious how much faster it became since then. 2.7.2 was the last version before I took over maintainership. 2.9.0 was the version I released at the end of the blog series.

Fresco is a ruby-framework that compiles down to a binary via Spinel (matz/spinel). It's super early, but I have something cobbled together that seems to work (and not segfault every fifteen minutes!) Fresco is fresh, it's new and it's inspired by Hanami and @hanakai.org

This was a year ago. How’s everyone’s AI coworkers working out today?

I do wish it was better understood by now—especially by folks in the media—that these "warnings" from large AI corporations in fact function as "advertisements" www.axios.com/2025/04/22/a...

I strongly believe that honest assessment is the best way to build trust, and I hope folks feel that the comparisons reflect that.

we started Miren because deployment hasn't gotten easier in a decade - and AI coding tools are only making the problem bigger curious how Miren stacks up in the age of AI? take a look: miren.dev/compare

Introducing `kiq`, Sidekiq's new terminal interface, making your occasional admin operations even faster. Give it a try and let me know how to make this an amazing tool for you. https://www.mikeperham.com/2026/03/10/sidekiq-in-the-terminal/

mikeperham.comSidekiq in the terminalMy favorite tech movement in 2025 wasn’t anything artifical, but rather the resurgence in interest around building terminal interfaces with two new frameworks, Charm and Ratatui, which make developing pure text user interfaces easier than ever before using Go or Rust. They provide a huge set of components and examples showing you how to build various types of functionality. Mainframe applications ruled the 70s and 80s, providing terminal interfaces for business operations. You might still see a ticket agent using a terminal to check you in at the airport. That’s an interface to a mainframe application, allowing the agent to lookup your ticket and assign you a seat quickly, with just a few keystrokes. To this day I remember my mom, a pharmacist, complaining about the new DOS -> Windows upgrade that the IT department rolled out to stores. Navigating their retail point of sale terminal application was much faster with a keyboard, the Windows version required a stream of precise mouse clicks and couldn’t rely on typing by muscle memory. Today interactive terminal interfaces are rare but I think Charm and Ratatui make this option much easier to provide.

Happy to see Andre finally speaking publicly about the hostile Ruby Central takeover last year. RC is no longer a trustworthy steward for the Ruby community. I don't see how we repair this rift without Shan stepping down, she has been awful as ED. andre.arko.net/2026/03/03/f...

Not bad! The top customer I’m aware of is running 20B/day or avg of 250,000 jobs/sec with a sharded Redis setup.

Huntress@huntress.com

We’re running nearly 1 billion Sidekiq background jobs a day to power all of the telemetry processing and detections. Can Redis scale with your workload? Here are the receipts. @mike.contribsys.com where does that rank in your experience?
