💯The case for democracy is not that voters are always right, or wise, or good. It's that they can correct their mistakes. That's why it's so dangerous to have billionaires controlling the media or regulating the flow of information. It shuts down the immune system of democracy.

Rob Ford@robfordmancs.bsky.social

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

if you ever happen to see someone post a joke you don't understand or discuss a subject you aren't familiar with, you are well within your right to complain, and perhaps even scold them if necessary. you are their customer and you have rights

Say what now? Why thank you, Jared. Thank you for providing admissible evidence that is no longer excluded from consideration under the Trump immunity ruling.

If it were a criminal matter to fail to deliver a stack of leaflets during an election campaign, most party activists - possibly excluding Lib Dems - would have to ask for some previous offences to be taken into consideration.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Yusuf's tweet suggests he may be asking the police to look into a criminal offence of electoral interference by not delivering leaflets, or not delivering postal votes. (Postal votes would not be hand delivered nor sent out by party. So this sounds like nonsense. Does he mean a form to request one)

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff to Vladimir Putin today: “You talk so much about Trump being a humanitarian, you are a humanitarian also, sir. And I salute that. I commend you.”

It feels like something from a different age now but The Canary drove certain people insane in the 2010s. (I wrote about them lots, I don't think they liked me, but they were very open in their 'well if the right are twisting facts in an online fight-to-the-death we might as well join in' attitude.)

Let’s be quite clear, this is better in a Scottish accent

Zelensky smiled when asked by Sky News whether Trump was trying to make him a “scapegoat” for problems including low ratings, high diesel prices and the war in the Middle East. Zelenskyy initially stayed silent, then said: “That is my answer.” #Ukraine

This is a new deep-field image from JWST, designed to look for the point of origin of a fast radio burst. The bright, multi-point features are stars in the Milky Way. Everything else is an entire galaxy.

It was ages ago but when I went to the You and Yours offices, I dont think I've ever met people with a clearer (correct) idea of who their audience is. The idea that the production team can't make shows in different formats for them is, at best, hard for me to believe. This is some bullshit.

It is true that, if they did really believe in this sportswashing project, they'd take the hit and come back from whatever league they are relegated to. I fear they won't though.

Gary Lineker on Man City: "Obviously it looks really bad for Man City. It really does and bad for the game… I'd love to see Man City now just own it and just say, 'OK, we got it wrong, but for the good of the game we'll accept it, we'll accept whatever punishment comes our way and we'll carry on.'"
