When I first saw this, I thought "wtf?! is that a picture of someone standing next to a hanging body?!" And then after squinting at my phone for a bit, I opened the image on my laptop. It looks like a person holding a pair of shoes and absolutely nothing else.

As a long, long, long, long, long time Converse buyer, I will never buy a Converse product ever again. I am sick of the virtue signalling to racists. I see this and I see a man hanged, a white robe that could be a klansman's robe and light shaped like a KKK hat. What the actual hell!?!

No, an ad agency did not walk into Converse HQ and say "Our pitch for your new collab with k-pop star Karina? Well, we can sum it up in three words: Ku. Klux. Klan." This is not a plausible scenario.

"in the knowledge attacks would also kill their families" is putting it very mildly. The program was named "Where's Daddy", in reference to the children it would kill.

I think I might literally go insane. All the coverage of this is like "Will this actually happen? Here's how much it would cost! How could the payments impact the economy?" THE PRESIDENT IS TRYING TO USE THE GOVERNMENT TO BUY THE ELECTION FOR HIS PARTY. WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THIS IS NORMAL.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

President Trump pledged at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday to give every American adult $5,000 if his party keeps control of Congress in November. Here's what to know.

"Lol, he's not going to actually send the checks!" is so many people's reaction to this and, again, I am going to go insane. What he has already done is a very obvious subversion of democracy! Why are we not talking about impeachment?!

Catherine Rampell@crampell.bsky.social

Since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via "DOGE dividend" -$2000 stimulus checks via "tariff dividend" -$1000+ checks via "savings" from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 "dividend" if Rs win midterms No checks have been issued www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-magi...

One irony with Clancy trial is that you see this "women are too emotional" thing a lot from conservatives but it's not like they're producing logical arguments against the very obvious proposition that mental illness reduces responsibility. They just get incredibly mad that people believe it.

Another irony is that you see a lot of things like Matt Walsh, who makes a big deal of his supposed Christianity, saying "If a voice told me to murder my children, I would refuse." While I highly doubt Walsh is actually Christian in any real sense, I'm still quite sure he's heard of Abraham.

"Fact X carries the clear implication of Y. This is false and potentially libelous based on the mere fact of X." Truly amazing stuff.

Beyond cheering SLAPP lawsuits, Toby Young directly legally threatened my anarchist collective to try to make us to take down a post exposing a racist 1) The british have no idea what free speech is, 2) little tory dipshits are totally unprepared for responses like "meet me in a dennys parking lot"

More from the author of this "left-wing case".

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

If the left wants to maintain an authentic commitment to human rights, “it must oppose the movement that seeks the elimination of Israel and the purging from civil society of those marked as Zionists,” Adam Louis-Klein argues.

Please have some sympathy for Yiannopoulos. Think how terrified he must be, being sent to a place where the murder rate is 80% lower.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

BREAKING: Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported to the United Kingdom, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.

Literally no one actually believes in this position. So I'm not sure why people always claim to. I guess it gives them some little thrill of superiority?

Ben Goldacre@bengoldacre.bsky.social

Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind.

The thing about people who say they believe due process is the only way to determine guilt and the truth of accusations is that, no, they do not believe that.

if I were an elected representative and my constituents were coming up and saying "our daughter can't go to college unless she gets an athletic scholarship" I would be like "this is why we need universal free college" not "we'll pretend to solve this by being cruel to trans people." crazy right

Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."

Tbh this cycle reveals that you can take literally 0 AIPAC money and still become the "AIPAC candidate" if your opponent screams it enough, especially if you're Jewish. The moment the DSA tires of Lander and want him replaced with one of them, yes, he will get branded as the AIPAC candidate.

I don’t care about people’s personal critiques of Starmer. I’m saying that the new normal, where a popular consensus forms that we should all feel a certain way (almost always anger or resentment), and then we reason backwards to dozens of rationales for that consensus, is mysterious and alarming.

Making myself very popular by doing a bunch of stuff that the people who like me hate and that the people who hate me like. No way this can fail.

starmer is doing all the anti-immigrant and anti-trans "popularism" stuff the centrists are demanding US dems do and this is the predictable result:

Congratulations to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social on somehow making Theresa May’s Conservative Party the most socially progressive government of the last decade, I suppose. Really impressive to be that fucking ghoulish a person.

A lot of the difference in media coverage between Farage and Polanski is due to the media's owners thinking Farage will lower their taxes and Polanski will raise them. But it's also due to the fact that it's normal to be impossibly cruel and deeply corrupt but weird to be a hypotherapist.

Feel like I'm on crazy pills reading Gelman saying it's important to have "an air of moral seriousness" then decrying cynicism. Call me crazy but I think what's important is *actual moral seriousness* and prominent people who lack it but put on an air of moral seriousness is a driver of cynicism.

It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

The thing is that Trump supporters probably find this really funny. The fact that Trump's actions are absurd is not actually a problem for them. The absurdity makes them even more satisfying.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

For those of us not in the cult, this is what we hear when anyone from the Trump administration speaks. For the people in the back, this is satire and so well done…

In the second article, Jones is of course attempting a rhetorical slight-of-hand to suggest that all schoolboys were like Farage. I've come to believe that rather than trying to point out such things, we should simply roll with them, e.g.: Nigel Jones writes he was also a schoolboy fan of Hitler.

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

Just so we're clear, one incident of alleged anti-semitism by a musician = a major national scandal that should be roundly condemned. Multiple incidents of alleged anti-semitism from the man leading the race to run the country = a load of nothing that should be completely ignored

If Jones wants to say that all schoolboys were like Farage, then clearly he is at a minimum saying that *he* was like Farage. If this inference bothers him, he should feel free to explain why his own column is bullshit. I don't see why we should have to do that for him.

One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.
