ah yes once again the racists are the real victims

The Verge@theverge.com

1Password faced immediate backlash from customers this week over a $300,000 pledge in support of a Linux distro created by David Heinemeier Hansson, who has regularly published overtly racist blog posts that include comments calling for deportation of ethnic minorities in Europe.

Right-wing talking points seem logical until you realize that they tolerate it with those exact actions with white men. All of them are racists trying to trick centrists and moderates into enacting genocide towards minorities. They want an ICE-like org to torture and scare brown ppl.

The trump admin imports white sound african "refugees" after complaining about immigration and the british "patriots" who complain about "migrant (brown) rape gangs" have zero issue with Prince Andrew doing the same thing w/ Epstein. Do not fall for right wing lies

Well he is in favor of remigration, some people consider that a step for ethnic cleansing because its usually based on race/religion/ethnicity

There is no remigration that’s not by force. And you’re either fooling yourself or thinking we’re fools, if you think the parties who use the word remigration do not plan on extending the concept to citizens who who are second or third+ gen immigrants.

He's not in favor of "remigration" either, he wants a status quo to exterminate and torture non-white people. None of these right-wingers are anti-immigrant, just anti-minoritiy. In the US, they strip minorities of their citizenship, thereby making them "migrants". Same playbook with nazis.

While Trump (and ICE) have done many evil things to immigrants lately, they aren't stripping anybody of citizenship. That's my point, there seems to be a disconnect between the actual evil they do and histrionic exaggeration of their evil.

I mean forcing a group of people to leave an are IS ethnic cleansing even if they technically move on their own and don't die in the process. Also, the idea of "deporting" Romani people (literally, I can find the receipt) is both ethnic cleansing and kinda wild in EU context

"Because the sacred cow here is not just that mass migration must stop going forward. It's also that millions who are already in Europe must go. Remigration has gone from a fringe concept to the mainstream discourse in record time on account of that realization" Sounds like ethnic cleansing to me

Removing established citizens by force, born to the country, who know no other country, would absolute be ethnic cleansing. Wanting to get rid of a recent wave of immigrants is simply hatred of immigrants.

Ugh I was looking at 1password because I use it for one of my jobs and discovered it can act as an authenticator auto-fill one-time passwords for me, which is a lifesaver (I jumble numbers badly). Bitwarden supposedly has one but it doesn't look as integrated... anyone know/have suggestions?

Bitwarden does not, as far as I know, do the thing I'm asking for, though? It's what I already use and I am not aware of it being able to handle my one-time passwords for me without me having to type them, which is the feature I am trying to find.

god damnit, this shit sucks. 1pass has literally been the very first thing I install on any new device of mine for over a decade. absolute necessity for managing digital life. now I feel compelled move me and my family to the (probably shittier) apple passwords. i'm tired, boss.

they aren't reversing shit

> We recognize that Omarchy is closely associated with its founder, and that raises questions about what our support means. the money kinda answers the questions raised, though.

Another disgusted longtime 1Password user. Will jump before the next renewal. As a Mac/iPhone user, it'll be easy enough to switch to Apple Passwords for login credentials. But what about the other stuff in 1Password, like credit card and bank account info to use on websites?

I’m of the opinion that people with abhorrently racist views should be afraid to speak up and that it’s an objectively good thing that they do feel fear.

If they want to advance an ideology of hateful exclusion, they should at the very least be prepared to suffer the consequences of being hatefully excluded!

It's a heavier lift but I'm actively investigating moving our enterprise instance. I wrote them and their response was basically "we're supporting OSS!" As a developer for 20+ years and advocate of OSS I asked them to please not treat customers like idiots on top of it. Insult to injury.

Jesus. It was bad that they gave him the money, but this attitude makes it like 10x worse. I tried to imagine there was some cold business logic, like maybe they're beholden to Shopify and got dragged along. Or (for some unknowable reason) they thought Omarchy was good. Nope! They donated to DHH.

If I was going to attribute any level of logic to it it's that Omarchy ships with 1Password installed (or at least it did when I was first aware of Omarchy in its early days), so theycould twist themselves into a knot about how that might bring in new users even not liking DHH. They like him though!

I don’t think 1Password needs to make room for people to speak up in favor of violence against minorities simply because they don’t like minorities. Perhaps those people should be afraid to speak out.

“What kinda team is it if we can’t even tolerate the racists” is an interesting strategy, never tried before, groundbreaking even, can’t wait to see how it plays out here

I KNOW that these people aren't being honest. I *know* But god it's so transparent to use an excuse made for mild differences in ideas on an actual eugenics-fan, white supremacist, cryptofascist

The comment from the other founder mentioned “Omarchy has grown to be the second most used Linux distribution among 1Password users”, which is intensely weird when this is literally the first time I’ve ever heard of the distro.

It comes preinstalled with it. It's DHH's personal dotfile thing, basically, and he uses 1Password, so he added it to the "distro". So yeah, it's the second most used Linux distro for their users because it may be the only Linux distro where it comes preinstalled

I wonder if it's really people using it, or if their metrics are just easily-befuddled by either install-numbers or launch-on-startup-without-signing-in numbers.

install numbers is a possibility, no doubt. though, let's be honest. following in the steps of your fav tech person would convince many idiots of buying X Premium or his recommended password manager or whatever. Companies pay for endorsements for a reason, sadly.

It's definitely popular with developers who overlap with people who understand why you should use a password manager but "second most used Linux" is right there with "second most livable planet in the solar system".

oh so I guess they're getting that data from their internal telemetry I was wondering how you'd even count that until I twigged onto the 1password part
