BERNIE'S REVOLUUSHUN !! When Nina Turner called Joe Biden & Jim Clayburn, "from the same bowl of shit", as Cornell West stood & applauded, it was clear they were stumpin for Trump

Democrats were the first though. "Democrats in Congress first raised and addressed the AIDS epidemic on April 13, 1982, when U.S. Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) convened the first-ever congressional hearing on the outbreak."

I hope Democrats are ready to blow up the system with campaign finance and transparency reforms. Trust is already at an all-time low. We don't get out of this mess without rebuilding trust.

Which is all a long-winded way of saying: These debates about Zionism and anti-Zionism are mostly unhelpful right now, and I wish everyone could just drop these terms unless speaking historically and talk about their political vision for the future in other terms.

9/ That cafe meeting, Kao asserted, was just one episode in a sprawling pay-to-play operation in Congress. He and his close associates donated nearly $900K to dozens of politicians, allowing Navatek to establish operations in half a dozen states with $40M+ a year in government funds.

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Ive been a broken record about this for days but right wing activists know when republicans are lying to moderate voters about being moderates and left wing activists simply demand ritual suicide from their politicians in R+14 states.

Folks, Trump's $5000 thing is dumb and transparent and whatnot. It's also never going to happen. But it isn't bribery. "Vote us into office and we'll do this policy thing you want" is the core of what political campaigns are. It would be a very bad idea to start criminalizing that.

The dumbest part of lefty purity around a figure like Steinem is not grasping that people liberated from authoritarian thinking and families, by liberals like Steinem or liberalism generally, are OPPPRTUNITIES for the left. "You like that? Have you heard about this?" Etc. Not complicated.

Regarding DSA-LA's non-endorsement of Nithya Raman, I think a lot of people on the left don't get that the way you gain clout with politicians is by proving yourself useful to them, not by threatening to withhold hypothetical future usefulness.

#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Dem. appointees, #SCOTUS has *granted* the Trump administration’s request to freeze a district court injunction that had blocked the mail-in ballots executive order. But Trump’s EO remains blocked by a different injunction in a different case—at least for now:

Basic rules of society that we need to re-establish post Covid: - You actually have to stop for red lights and stop signs. - If you want to watch videos or listen to music in a shared public space, you need to use headphones. - Your pet does not need to go everywhere with you. - Don’t litter.

It's wild to me how many people do not understand this. "Luxury housing" is not some ontologically separate category from the rest of the housing market. Nor is "affordable housing." It's all one big fluid market & when you build more, everyone moves up & frees up the bottom end.

The idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.

If you object to the government of Israel, say “Israel.” Don’t use an ambiguous term that is wildly overinclusive and strongly associated with broader Jewish identity. That seems like an effort to draft off ambient antisemitism

One of the reasons the growing usage of “Zionist” as the kind of omni-villain for the left makes me extraordinarily uncomfortable is that it’s a term that seems chosen to sweep in a lot of these people while pretending to stay focused on geopolitics

The goal should be to create a new world we can all live in together, not to restore the world to some lost state of justice and fairness. The latter is a doomed project that burdens endless generations of the future with the crimes of endless generations of the past.

Dems don't need a package of policy proposals (yet again), they need a full on AMERICAN RESTORATION, sweeping away every vestige of Trumpism, restoring the prosperous and peaceful country Trump has all but destroyed, and brutally punishing the people who brought America to its knees

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Assuming Democrats ever re-obtain power, they cannot treat it as a mere change of party control, the next swing in the perpetual metronome of American democracy. They must characterize it as an AMERICAN RESTORATION, a new birth of constitutionalism in a dark sea of corruption and absurdity.

Also perverse is that “gentrification” often refers to a reversal of midcentury white flight from the urban cores. Later generations of less-bigoted white professionals being delighted to live with neighbors of color should have been a good thing.

onionspeedos.bsky.social reposted

Not quoting because it's a small account, but I do this exercise in my housing class where I show census data from a South LA neighborhood where a wealthier group of people replaced a poorer group. The students all agree it's gentrification until I reveal it's Latinos replacing African Americans.
