I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

Harry Kane is a fantastic footballer, a great role model, and now, the world's best. The professional's professional. In a world of ferocious egos and stroppy has-beens, football needs more Harry Kanes.

look, nothing is simple and i have no parsimonious explanation for anything here, but a student protest movement, focused on corruption & authoritarianism, just won a major european election. a big deal.

@monkemma.bsky.social here showing us what journalists should be able to achieve with little time instead of click bait nonsense. Another excellent thread.

OK, there is something very, very weird going on in the press right now. It certainly appears, from the outside, as if certain people are being very much protected in a way that was not afforded to certain other people! Let's start with the facts around Lola Salem... 🧵1/

Any Town fans going to the Walsall game Saturday, please donate to this if you can. Either cash or bring non-perishable food (tins etc) with you. There's a list of stuff they need on the poster below. Disgraceful that food banks are needed in 21st C Britain but as they are, let's help our community!

A reminder that Manchester City's UAE owners are playing footsy with the UK far-right, have been credibly accused of torturing scores of UK citizens, deployed an assassin to UK soil, and probably hacked 10 Downing Street. And unlike Man City, we publish our evidence 👇 fairsq.org/petropopulis...

Ninety years ago today, Oswald Mosley tried to march his Blackshirts through the Jewish East End. 🧵 He had thousands of uniformed fascists behind him and 6,000 police clearing the way. But the people of the East End got there first.

Mahmood's rationale remains the same. Fewer (legal, working) migrants => less racism Nothing to do with integration. No evidence. I'd add this *doesn't* show she hates immigrants (FTAOD don't think she does). It shows her contempt/distrust/fear of ordinary Brits.

Even the GB News presenter is thrown by his guest's suggestion that all asylum seekers be castrated. This is what happens when the narrative marches ever rightwards. It drifts out of everyone's control and requires individuals involved to suddenly realise 'no wait, f***, that's mad'.

this isn't conjecture. This is the EXACT reason why one of the quickest ways to shut down a fash with a camera is to start shouting: "this video is brought to you by SquareSpace!" INSTANT demonitization. Because the streaming/social platforms already protect their advertisers more than the state.

A personal story about that phrase “young men of fighting age” applied to asylum seekers. As many of you know I took in a young Ukrainian woman under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. As part of that process, soon after she arrived we were visited by the local authority rep and a Fire Brigade rep.

Otto English@ottoenglish.bsky.social

I'm not surprised but I'm truly disgusted that this narrative of "dangerous fighting age men posing a threat to women and children" is genuinely doing the rounds on the media with almost no push back at all. This is 1930s level stuff.

Sweden's Social Democrats on target to get 99 seats in parliament (out of 349). That's their worst result since 1928. In March, Denmark's Social Democrats had their worst election result since 1903. What to they have in common? Mimicking "hard line" right-wing policies. It's a recipe for disaster.

I was on a ferry from Belfast to Scotland in July along with groups of young immigrant families who were being sent away to avoid getting petrol-bombed out of their homes on the celebrations for "the 12th". Real tough guys these, going after terrified and traumatised young women and children.

This government reminds me of Joe Biden. Biden didn't want to be the prosecute Trump president, he wanted to pass an infrastructure bill. Burnham doesn't want to be the take on the hard right PM, he wants to do social care reform and devo. But you have to do the task you're set or face disaster.

The UK government, the Opposition, and large sections of the UK media have enabled the rise of violent racism in the country. It is time for a firm and principled stance, and an organised and robust pushback against those funding and fuelling it.

The chief vectors of the fascism ascendant in Europe are the richest man on Earth via his social media platform, the Presidency of the United States, and the Kremlin. Now James Orr has stepped down as Reform UK's Head of Policy after C4's report, questions remain for Cambridge – where he is Associate Professor. Byline Times revealed serious concerns about his activities there months ago. We all know there won't now be 200+ articles on him and his life don't we?
