Dumping our negative emotions onto other people is selfish behavior. The last thing we should want to do is demoralize our allies. We can argue, we can debate, but we should process our despair privately, and then look for ways to help, no matter how small.

in a real sense his politics is *incredibly* idealistic it's just that instead of radical policy change he imagines a radical change in political dynamics where the Democratic party can enforce radical party discipline on the entire left

99% of trans voters vote for Democrats and 99% of Democrats vote for good trans policy this "fight" is between vocal trans people who (correctly) fear a retreat on trans issues and vocal partisans who (correctly) believe that Dems are very good on trans issues each pointing at each others' worst 1%

I think it's bad that Congress won't impeach a president who literally announces his crimes.

Part of the answer to "how did we get here?" is that many major journalists—since 1998, Crawford has covered SCOTUS for PBS, ABC, and CBS—are lying bigots. Here Crawford is praising a guy who asked a dumb racist question, glitched out when asked why, then admitted he wanted a Christian theocracy.

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.

What’s astounding to me is how “the president builds himself a palace with money given directly to him in secret by the richest people in America,” literally the most straightforward and worst executive-branch corruption story in US history, just gets shrugged at because Trump is unapologetic

In our course and book _Calling Bullshit_, we posit that If something seems too good, or too bad, to be true, it probably is. Now as a college professor I'm pretty confident that overreliance can AI can harm our thinking ability, but just ten minutes of use? Let's dig into this this study a bit.

in the 20th century we were involved in a lot of horrors, and the response to those horrors was to do things to make them more scarce. then everyone forgot what causes the horrors, and people were like maybe the horrors were good actually? and that's why measles and public executions are back.

I guess this is just sort of the logical endpoint of this administration’s commitment to fulfilling their supporters’s desire to vicariously consume violence done to other people.

Tragically, this was not to be the kind of content we would get on Bluesky.

It was clear from the beginning that the situation on the USS Lincoln needed to be taken seriously. Instead of being honest about it and supporting our servicemembers, Trump and Hegseth denied and minimized what was happening. Failed leadership.

A couple went on a Fox News podcast and claimed the state of #Massachusetts took away their teen because they won't help the teen transition. But it's actually because the father was charged with beating and threatening to kill the teen and the mother was charged with witness intimidation.

Tbh the modal intervention is with a family that actually doesn't seem to give a shit at all but just doesn't want the kid taken *away* because that *belongs to them*. But they don't "want" the child. They just don't want someone else to have them.

One aspect of living in a personalist form of government is that people no longer expect the laws or norms to protect them. If the king is rumored to be thinking of demolishing a believed institution, people assume they must defend it in person

Why talk about how nuts the AI rationalist sex cult is, and not just focus on the (very real) risks and harms of AI? Well, when we're discussing "who should get to regulate AI, and how," I think it's VERY relevant to talk about the antisocial, unsettling ways many people running US AI think.
