The only other entry in "Does not know ball" above this in Iowa is praise for a Brian Ferentz offense.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

This man's before and after sales metrics must make their way to the right hands.

With the election looming, the GOP is calling in the big guns. Which means having a megachurch freak named Timmy dispatch an army of walleyed 23yo home-school casualties with YouTube diction to opposing candidates' rallies, where they will demand those candidates reject and denounce the WNBA.

We're currently looking into reports that Sextape and Cookiepuss have both "got that shit on." We will report back with any breaking details.

(Also electoral politics are not going to save us. Sure, vote strategically to minimize harm, but since we won’t vote our way out this, vote your principles. Compromising on others’ safety for your own comfort is a betrayal of those others, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you do that.)

Of all the stupid ideas of mine that my chapter had to sit through, making an “Eat the Rich Candy” sign was the one that stuck home.

citing Cushbomb: In as much as the words of a president can embody a moment, Lincoln summed it all up starting at "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it" and ending at "every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword."

Cathode Ray Vaughn@schneidremarks.bsky.social

There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"

If it hadn't been John Brown, it'd have been someone else, but you don't get from there to there without him and thank God for him.

Except he didn't fund it, I did, paying a much higher tax rate than the white supremacist. Those thrusters are SpaceX tech for which we—not him—have paid ~$31 billion. I paid for those cold gas thrusters and the software running them, and what I get in exchange is a short video and white supremacy.

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

Imagine suggesting that John Brown, history's most absolved white, hadn't adequately thought through the violence necessary to end slavery.

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

every time I think "I never want to read a story about an 'elementary school shooting' ever again in my life" and every time it is harder to confront the grim stats that make it unlikely we'll see so much as the end of the calendar year before we're right back here www.cbsnews.com/live-updates...

Isaiah’s the real deal and it’s been so cool to work alongside the SEK DSA. They’ve been incredible.

Democratic Socialists of America@demsocialists.bsky.social

DSA endorses our comrade Isaiah Harris. Isaiah is running to bring the DSA to Kansas’s State House! Isaiah is a true member of the working class and is running to bring better healthcare, affordability, education, and more to the community that made him who he is.

This isn’t frustrating to me at all. As someone for whom these tools could have great use, it just doesn’t matter compared to the explicit purposes they are being used and sold for.

I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works

And in light of Indigenous Peoples Day, considering the usefulness of AI tools is, to me, akin to looking at the land stolen from Native Americans and saying “But we’re feeding so many people!”

Joplin-Area Democratic Socialists of America are holding a protest on Oct. 19th in response to a sitting council member's suggestion that the Joplin PD enter a 287 (g) agreement to work with I.C.E. Come let the Joplin City Government know that we don't approve of partnering with I.C.E.?

It’s incalculable how important it is to fund the arts in public schools.

If Amendment 3 were simply to ban abortion against the will of the people expressed just two years ago, it would be worth voting against.

Jamie Reed, the former social worker at a St. Louis transgender clinic, made the case for Amendment 3 last month before a room full of Republicans in St. Louis County. “If we talk to people about the trans part of this amendment,” she said, “we can get it to pass.” #moleg #mogov

Most importantly, Republicans have bolted those together because they believe their coordinated and calculated effort of stigmatizing trans people has been so successful that the people of Missouri will gladly pay with our rights to public expression of public will, healthcare and privacy.

From even a selfish standpoint I think it's always give it away. The likelihood of a camera picking it up and getting more giveaways is high enough to give it a shot.

There's a video going around IG of a Dodgers' fan catching a ball and people giving him shit for not giving it to a kid. Personally, I would love the feeling of giving something like that to a little one. But I'm not going to trash the guy for wanting to keep it, either. It's October baseball.

Yet I say this as a guy whose uncle absolutely didn't make that choice and kept for me a Derek Jeter foul ball from that game in Fenway in '04.

And in another age, as a young child my grandfather had Ted Williams 400th home run bounce off of his hands to the adult man behind him who caught it and then got to go in the clubhouse and meet Ted. My grandfather complained about it until his dying day, lmao.

If you know someone who worked retail in KC when Tony Gonzalez played, you likely know someone who had a glowing story about him. It's a shame he's sold that to whitewash unrepentant sexual abusers.
