“Rape culture is a society that condones male aggression both emotionally and physically towards women. It’s a society that has made sexual remarks, sexual touching, to rape itself, a norm for all members of the community & inflicts fear into the hearts of all women everywhere they may go.” #r4today

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

“Why did a man who has appalling racist views join Reform UK? Because he thought he was among friends.” Lmao. Nick Robinson chose violence this morning and we’re here for it. Nigel Farage doesn’t deserve any restraint. #r4today

Farage’s response to ques abt Reform’s abysmal vetting process? Pointing out that other parties have worse ppl in their ranks. We welcomed a racist, but at least we don’t have ppl linked to contract killings or paedophiles! Yikes. The bar isn’t just low; it’s somewhere below the basement. #r4today

Nigel Farage is on #r4today again, peddling the myth that Brexit has been a success. I wonder if Nick Robinson will ask him some hard questions about his party’s finances.

So much to say about Brazil, not least of which is the role that Erika Hilton, a Black trans leader and most voted woman politician in Brazil, played in mobilizing folks for Lula. She was behind the critical, concrete, economic promise of shorter work-week. theprint.in/feature/erik...

theprint.inWho is Erika Hilton? Black trans politician was one of Lula’s loudest campaignersErika Hilton’s electoral triumph comes amid a hostile environment. Brazil has the highest number of reported murders of transgender people in the world, with 80 recorded in 2025.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Right, so, male influencers are being sent out to tell Black people that resisting data centers is wrong actually because people don't understand how to really measure their water use. It’s an appeal to scientific expertise intended to intimidate Black people.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Bell Ribery Addy hits the nail on the head: “We alwys apologise to our equals.” The King refuses to apologise for slavery bec he don’t see ex-colonised ppl as equals. The purveyors of institutionalised racism use classism to oppress poor white ppl & racism to give them s/o to look down on. #r4today

“If you are pro-British- Empire, you are pro-racism. The two are completely intertwined. For a country whose entire official identity is invested in being the Good Empire which prevailed over Bad Nazis, there is nothing more triggering than having that convenient binary under scrutiny.” #r4today

What exactly were the supposed benefits of the slave trade and the British Empire? And why do #r4today journalists never challenge those who make these claims by asking them to give specific examples? And Britain wasn’t the first country to abolish slavery. It was Haiti.

Jonny Dymond: “If you keep doing down a country’s past, you end up rather cutting the roots away from that country & leaving its population wondering: What are we for? Where are we from? Are we meant to be apologising the whole time?” Why is this argument never applied to Germany & Nazis? #r4today

In its earlier reporting, #r4today highlighted Lula’s age as a potential obstacle to his presidential ambitions. Yet, when reporting on Trump’s possible response to Lula’s successful campaign, age suddenly becomes irrelevant.

I’m sure #r4today journalists would have been revelling in the results of the Brazilian election if the’f gone the other way. Cheer up, guys. There’s still the AfD in Germany and Marine Le Pen in France to pin your hopes on.

Whenever someone claims that calling Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide is “antisemitic”, what I hear is a rejection of the universality of human rights, the universal applicability of the genocide convention, or a parity of state behavior and accountability. #r4today

Wild how using the word genocide in applying the crimes laid out by genocide convention to Palestine is called antisemitic, yet the term & juridical concept of genocide was created by a jew. Criticising an apartheid regime waging genocide is actually a litmus test of basic human decency. #r4today

Tice says Lab is the party of welfare, unlike Reform who are the party of corporate welfare. MPs trough on state subsidies while asking the poor to cope w/ systemic violence. Who’s gaming the system? Ppl on benefits they can barely live on or MPs who legislate themselves a gravy train? #r4today

With 83% of the vote counted nationwide, Lula has stretched his lead to 2.8 million votes. That's a lead of 51.4% to 48.6%. That puts him on track for a victory that could be larger than his 1.8% win four years ago, which would be an immense comeback. He's even up in Minas Gervais now, by 0.6%.
