Sitka Media paid this homophobic, racist, pro-Eugenics BC Conservative staffer dude to write pro oil industry slop. remember that when you share their benign municipal coverage content. this is not a normal media company

Almost as if there is a high voter turnout, progressive candidates win. Should be a lesson for other campaigns. You need to get voters to care. BC showed that being wishy washy gets you washed out.

John Michael McGrath@jm-mcgrath.bsky.social

A high-turnout election! Bradford got more votes losing than all but 2 winners in Toronto's post-1997 history, and both those cases were incumbents running against relatively weaker challengers. Olivia Chow, of course, won *even more* making her the most vote-getting politician in Canadian history.

Turnout in Waterloo was a meagre 30.71%. Sad to see the incumbent mayor - who seemed quite good - lose to a candidate who presented no vision during the campaign other than empty pablum about taxes and cost of living.

If I were emperor of the universe any candidate promising to balance the budget or fund expensive programs by "cutting inefficiency, waste and fraud in government" would be immediately slimed like a Nickelodean host.

Literally the first shot of this "historically accurate" Odyssey movie shows a boat that A) Has no steering oar. B) Is under full sail *and* full rowers while entering a cave, presumably to dock inside.

It's funny how the Defenders of Western Civilization really want Odysseus to be this heroic patriarchal figure when he is canonically kind of a dirtbag.

Mass Effect was my ultimate white whale, my all-time dream project. For the last couple years I'd been in discussion w/ BioWare & EA to take on the project & as part of that I wrote close to 20 minutes of music to explore where the franchise can go next, may as well share it!

Hey @davidebybc.bsky.social any regrets about that electoral reform?

Since Alaska adopted top-four primaries and #RankedChoiceVoting: - State legislative general elections have seen tighter margins of victory on average - The % of legislative contests featuring 3+ candidates has more than doubled - Voters have replaced incumbent legislators more often

At the next BC NDP Convention, delegates must clean house! And now is the time to start! Before the next leadership race begins. Make it the front and centre issue, impossible to ignore.

One thing it’s worth noting about the recent #BritishColumbia election: The Conservatives got less than 50% of the vote but 75% of the seats. We need electoral reform.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Someone at the Washington post heard him say that and was like, "yeah, let's print it verbatim."

President Trump called Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a “jihadist” during a campaign rally in Michigan, urging his supporters to fight El-Sayed, who may be the first Muslim senator, in the same way Americans battled terrorists on 9/11.

I've reported a lot on OneBC and Dallas Brodie, the party that did its best to promote residential school denialism and attack Indigenous rights in this province. Tonight she lost her riding of Vancouver-Quilchena about as hard as you can lose.

At least this hasn’t happened with Sim still mayor, or with Alberta getting ready to vote on leaving. But it’s so ludicrously and tragically unnecessary.

Replying to @stewartprest.ca

Consistent with what I've been saying—that this was a mobilization election, not a movement. And the NDP were giving their supporters all sorts of reasons to simply stay home. Looks like they did.

This is an election for the history books—not unlike the BC Libs 2001 sweep that led to major policy shifts including widespread privatization You can count on @policyalternatives.ca for hard-hitting research & analysis of what this new government means for BC and Canada #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Under the CPBC, I expect BC will follow AB, QC, ON by aggressively privatizing surgeries, diagnostics, long-term care CPBC platform calls for publicly funded vouchers for surgeries and long-term care. This will expand the private for-profit health care industry #bcpoli

One of tonight's story is a lot of former B.C. Liberal organizers who thought the party had become too conspiratorial minded or focused on their most passionate supporters took control of the party, told online influencers to pound sand and support One B.C. if they so dared, and were vindicated

Best outcome today is a minority government, regardless of of colour with the greens holding the balance. So vote wisely, even if you have to hold your nose. #bcpoli

I was talking to somebody this week who studies police & they wondered where the 1000 recruits are going to come from. Competition from other forces + Ford lowered standards : there’s going to be some very low end recruits.
