Tories overstate net zero cost by nearly £500bn in apparent spreadsheet error. Same error amplified by right-wing think-tanks, press It suited their ideological leanings. Future historians might say - planet earth and human life was shattered by a spreadsheet error.

The entire UK media narrative on Kemi Badenoch is on how "popular" she is & "more popular than the Tories" as the narrative below states. Yet the actual picture is Badenoch is STILL UNPOPULAR: only LESS UNPOPULAR than last year. And less unpopular than the Tories. #bbclaurak

If people don't want to pay tax to make this country function and help out the rest of society and particularly those who need help most... then maybe they should move to Dubai and stop bleating about it. Really sick to death of it.

Your regular reminder that UK taxes are average by western standards and low on middle-earners. Labour figures, especially, should not fall into the trap of pretending that we have a “high” tax burden and that taxes are to blame for the living standards crisis. www.arguably.uk/p/the-tax-tr...

🚨 The headline numbers are large: a 53.8% decline in export product varieties to the EU and a 16.5% fall in export values (meaning that fewer types of products are now being sold by UK firms to the EU). Creating trade barriers with your largest trading partner is economically illiterate.

Perhaps someone needs to explain “inheritance tax” and its connection to … er … death rather than work.

Crypto billionaires don’t become crypto billionaires by being generous or altruistic. They become crypto billionaires by being greedy, selfish, amoral, dishonest, untrustworthy shites. They don’t give away money for the common good. Is that who should control our politics?

Nigel Farage who was literally given a £5 million gift by a crypto billionaire wants to end "something for nothing" Britain

Ghislaine Hull@ghizzybear.bsky.social

“Reform will end ‘something for nothing’ Britain.” - Nigel Farage. He receives £98,599 a year as an MP, yet for more than three months this year he didn't cast a single parliamentary vote or make a single written contribution or speech in Parliament either. But yes, let’s shout at poor people

We do not build the reservoirs needed to store the rain that falls here. We do not build strategic food reserves needed to maintain provision in hard times. We failed to build effective stores of PPE, to protect us in pandemics. This country has long been governed by people who do not prepare.

Farage has dodged a bullet. Misjudged the resignation, poured effort into mobilising his base giving up on Manchester mayoralty. Got exactly vote national polls would predict in Clacton. Faces same questions about evading declaring crypto donation. Binface the real winner - perhaps the real story

Tim Bale@timbale.bsky.social

Yes he won and won well, even if Binface's result is amazing. But Farage's decision to stay away because he apparently didn't want to be seen lining up alongside of a bunch of fellow candidates he's reported as dismissing as 'nobodies' doesn't sit too well with his claim to be a man of the people.

Australia routinely declares a Total Fire Ban, with stiff penalties for violation, during heat waves. Here in the UK we ask stores not to sell portable BBQs 🙄

"The human share of ignitions is put at roughly 97%. In the whole run of British fire service records, lightning has been logged as the cause of three wildfires....This is why a 2024 parliamentary briefing stated flatly that almost all UK wildfires are started by people."

Steve Telfer reposted

Wow this is a bad result for Farage. In the most Reform friendly seat in the country should get more than this - and Binface’s result shows once again that the centre and left will vote for literally anyone to try and stop him.

63% of the vote given the circumstances (i.e. no serious challengers) was not a strong performance.

Will Jennings📉🗳️@drjennings.bsky.social

Given that Farage isn't facing candidates from any of the other main parties *and* Reform is polling around ten points higher than its GE2024 vote, a vote share of below 70% for him would arguably be an under-performance.

Farage cannot be allowed to get away with this lie. It's the politics of the absolute gutter. And invoking the two world wars in his grubby little game is an insult to the people who actually fought and died in them.

The Greens abstain in the battle against Reform. Not very progressive or principled.

After being eliminated in the first round of the Manchester Mayoral Election, Green candidate Geraldine Coggins said she had “no preference” on a Labour or Reform mayor. How the hell can you call yourself a progressive candidate and say you have no preference between Labour and Reform?

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.
