It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

We’ve been through this before but prediction markets are vibes machines until votes are actually being counted and then they become ruthlessly efficient high value information aggregators. “I don’t trust Kalshi” with 60% of the vote in is just silly. bsky.app/profile/love...

I don’t know, man, I’m kind of sick of treating Trump and his cronies like they’re just absurd and laughable and not really spending any time talking about the murders, the concentration camps, the millions starved around the world, people living lives beset with threats of violence and erasure.

Dolly Parton seems to have been one of the very few people of our modern age to figure out that giving money away is 1) a lot of fun and 2) makes people like you.

The articles about people who voted for Trump two times now turning on him actually feels like a validation of the criticism of Democrats for pursuing these voters constantly since 2016. All of that time setting up a “permission structure” to break up MAGA was a fucking waste.

Getting around to the mandalorian and grogu. It’s… just a two part episode. I mean it’s fine. But it even has a compete story told in almost exactly one hour. And then it does organically continue but it’s like suspiciously exactly two one-hour stories back to back! This is just the Season 4 opener!

His increasing dementia makes it even easier to tell that he truly has never understood the difference between aesthetics and reality.

On 250th anniversary of US Revolution, we need to talk incessantly about Boston Massacre. Where 200 colonists threw ice, sticks & stones at the King's soldiers who then killed colonists The soldiers had no immunity, but were tried under Boston province law. /1 www.battlefields.org/learn/articl....

The idea that, after everything that's happened, a future Dem administration/DOJ would just be forced to respect blanket, preemptive pardons issued by Trump to cover up crimes, is absurd. The pardon power is not a magic spell that we are helpless to overcome.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Actually launching an impeachment against the sitting SecDef of your own party is a big step. But I think a *lot* of Republicans are going to be delighted to have Somebody To Blame For Iran who isn't named Trump, and that includes Trump. I don't think it'll be a party-line vote in the end.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

i really do think that a successful impeachment and removal of hegseth is a live possibility if dems win the senate. he is a genuine disaster.

The reason we keep hearing about desperate schemes to boost Republican chances in the midterms—Announce we're buying Russian diesel! Sue to preemptively reject a Democratic victory in Alaska!—is because they don't have a secret plan that will overturn a midterm loss, not because they do.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

I sincerely think it would be for the best in the long run to have Trump attempt to rename as many things as possible as often as possible. New Mexico was great. The Atlantic Ocean would be wonderful. Renaming Venezuela or Greenland would be ideal.

It’s tragic that there’s so much car traffic in my neighborhood between 8-9am. I live just 1 mile from the heart of Center City so many of these drivers are probably commuting to jobs in the suburbs. It doesn’t have to be this way. BIRT is largely to blame. Bring jobs back to the city.

GOP Primary in 2028 is gonna be… interesting because every candidate will be trying to distance from Trump as much as possible but also trying to avoid angering his cult (or him) too much. I say this as neutrally as I can - he will be intensely polarizing within the GOP and that will be challenging.

NYT-Siena poll: Trump approval: Likely voters 36% approve 59% disapprove That's Trump's lowest approval recorded in any Times-Siena poll. More than two-thirds of independent voters said they disapproved of the way Trump has handled his job.

Don’t get me wrong. 90% of the party will come home no matter who takes the nomination. But it’s gonna be messy as hell until some kind of “consensus on Trump” emerges and that can’t happen while he lives and demands fealty and insists on being center stage.
