I have a strong need to disobey, so I often eat things labeled "Do not eat" or "Not for human consumption". Today I ironed something I was wearing because the iron manual said "Do not iron clothes while wearing them". Was careful not to burn myself though.

TBH, with a literal handful of exceptions, you can have the old high street back if you are willing to knock down and densify the actual buildings on, in and around the high street.

I am a doctor. I wish that I could prescribe dildos to people. We could in the Victorian era. The amount of people these days getting random household objects stuck in their arses is getting ridiculous. Please, you're an adult, just get a proper and safe dildo, for fuck's sake.

Food. The standard at the mid market in the UK is actually pretty high.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

there is a kind of collective suicidal exhaustion in the 70+ crowd as though the unspoken wish is to beat the end of civilization by being entombed alive with their family and possessions to all die together, the friction of living finally at an end, suburban pharoahood culminated

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Perl long ago disappeared up its own arse, python is on the same trajectory: let's face it, bash is by far the best language for prototyping. Give me a decent bash compiler and I'd never go anywhere else.

I’ve got an idea Satya, if you have a bunch of “developers” they can produce “games” which you can then “sell” in exchange for “money”.

guys please stop falling for this, this is not “rogue AI” it’s “environments with lax cybersecurity controls”

More Britons are failing to comply what used to be seen as civic obligations. Disparate, sometimes important and sometimes trivial, overlay them and it seems like something has slipped in the relationship with the state

Controversial opinion maybe. But anyone saying anything other than Don’t know (MAYBE neither?) is an idiot.

The government also doesn’t know why I’m riding a train or using the internet. The issue with data centres isn’t the transparency of their use. But the resources they consume space they take and their impact on the places we put them. Attack the tangibles.

Today's Pragmatic Engineer newsletter [https://t.ly/ltiYl] was talking about Meta's misguided attempt to fire everybody and replace them with AI. Zuch was evididently thinking (if you can call it that) that mass layoffs would make them look more like a startup. 1/9

There is no greater driver of economic growth than good public transport links. Look at the boom of the Elizabeth Line. People who whinge about the costs of it are just short-sighted morons. Ignore them and build everything. HS2. HS3. Crossrail 2. Trams in every city. Just do it.
