Not to make this about cis people but sometimes I feel like us trans women are more of an excuse to intimidate cis girls out of playing sports on threat of, calling it what it is, sexual assault.

the praiseworthy thing here is the work done in order to bring about the environment in which the rainbow capitalists feel comfortable hoisting their pride flags. praising the capitalists themselves is pointless, they will take those flags back down for a dollar

Parents are poisoning their children because they know what's best for them. People are selling poison to children because it comes from an animal, how can it be dangerous, it's natural? The state is abdicating its prerogative to regulate food because the cranks cannot stop poisoning children.

I am thrilled and proud beyond measure to support the amazing workers who create and design the games I and my loved ones have spent a lifetime playing. I implore everybody to sign the petition and signal boost the campaign as far and wide as we can!

This morning, the D&D team and Magic's Studio X informed our leadership of our intent to unionize. We love the games we make and the work we do, and unionizing is how we protect that work. unitedwizardsofthecoast.com/news/dnd-stu...

Hey you know how when Tucker Carlson or Nick Fuentes toss out some nominally left wing position, and everyone immediately recognizes it as an attempt to rehabilitate their image and infiltrate new audiences? Maybe stop praising the Pope just because he hates AI, like everyone else does.

Growth and Decay I saw a sapling growing from the stumps of a decaying tree while walking my huskies and imagined the ghost of the dead tree watching over its successor. 1/2 #art #painting #tree

AI RANT Following the cancellation of three major debut book deals over AI suspicions, I decided to put my own (needless to say, 100% human-written) prose to the test. My detector of choice was Originality AI, and the results proved to be jarring, to say the least. 🧵1/5

watching cis people repeatedly fail to find a way to counter the conservatives' emphasis on sex and thus watch them hopelessly struggle as conservatives bring back extremely invasive "sex testing" and defund or destroy women's organizations and social spaces is so. wow lol

I'm of course 100% biased, being from Spain myself, but Spain winning the world cup would be amazing just for the absolut middle finger to Trump!

I'm replaying Hades I, and the fact that Hades described Zagreus and Theseus' relationship as a "heated rivalry" is sending me lol

a great dissection of why a lot of fandom drama doesn't only boil down to "these people are thinking too much about [insert series here] and need to touch grass." there's another layer to the way folks get obsessed (for parasocial/self-important rewriting/clout reasons, etc) that gets glossed over

Being from Mallorca, I gotta say that our party scene is not that great. Not saying that it's bad, but you can have just as much fun partying in any decently sized city. So many people come ere just to party and it's like... there's so many better things to do in the island!

Here I invite you to be a micro-heretic. To bring small shame on your people. Tell me about a highly praised thing in your hometown/area that all locals LOVE except YOU. I’m from the Seattle area. Taco Time is nothing special. Bland. Not horrible but not worth going out of your way. Now you go!

Always sad when students learn about the secret list of all their flaws we professors keep whenever we notice the inadequacies they're trying to hide. You want to shield them from that, you know? But, just like their deep seated failings, in the end it always comes out.

It really cannot be overstated that COVID happened, suddenly a bunch of absentee tech dads were forced to stay home where they saw their kids playing Animal Crossing while talking on Discord, then collectively decided to light a trillion dollars on fire to make Snow Crash IRL.

I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines. Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

Really depends on who you ask within our profession but... Academics should be paid when asked to peer review academic articles. Every time I tell non-academics about how the academic publishing industry works, they are horrified...

The almost half a point they made by accident here is that this isn’t an LLM problem so much as way too many people thinking that a dataset being big negates the data being trash and clearly not reflecting the underlying reality at all.
