This is actually a pretty minor lapse by @nytimes.com standards; usually when they do one of these undecided voter stories it turns out to be a literal card-carrying local Republican Party official.

It is darkly hilarious how many Westerners will describe these people as liberals: they believe in strict hierarchy, rule by divine right, socially conservative structures that politically disempower groups, "innate" inequality, etc. Of course, all arw vehemently opposed to democracy and equality.

Then they'll go on about how France is an organic nation and not just the product of 180 years of genocidal assimilation. One thing I do appreciate about Americans beefing with Western European is their calling out of their hypocrisy.

When people like Anne Applebaum talk about the far-right they don't mean the Middle East because they exceptionalize the region so much that its developments exist outside time. The region is filled with far-right leaders that she happens to support.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Few people like killing animals, & nobody who likes it should work in conservation. But sadly, as Euan explains, it can be necessary. Some people think that choosing not to kill invasive animals is a passive kindness, but it’s a cruel choice to not help the native animals killed by invasive animals.

A pretty big win for anti-data centre activists in Melbourne: protests over huge new power lines for Nextdc’s M3 project forced Jemena to pause works in Sept. Nextdc says that delayed power to the site. Today it cut FY27 earnings guidance by about a third and halted new projects and land buys.
