Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

When I worked as an freelancer I’ve had to go find health insurance as an individual person. There’s no negotiating and it’s 4 times as expensive as when you work for a corporation.

Preach! Before the ACA I was denied insurance for the pre-existing condition of being female. I had a hysterectomy (anemia, adenomyosis/endometriosis *not cancer*). I was otherwise 100% healthy and in my late 30s. I worked with an insurance broker and he was literally like, "Nobody will cover you".

He can have the $80,000 hip replacement or the $100,000 prostate cancer surgery and it would be like paying for a night out at the movies for anyone else. Screw him.

What’s absolutely amazing is about 28 to 37% of Americans are going to absolutely fall for this and start clamoring for it. Everyone on right wing hate speech radio, and right wing hate speech cable news will be telling all of the rubes it’s the best deal imaginable. Way better than single payer.

He has literally no idea what goes into a healthcare insurance policy. Copays, deductibles, max OOP, pharmacy benefits, covered and not covered services, pre-authorization requirements. On and on. Utterly laughable.

I hate to say this, but he has a point about the insurance companies. US healthcare will never improve while it’s run by insurance co’s. BUT I suspect he and his rich cronies have a plan for ‘health coverage’ involving their companies. That won’t work either! Healthcare is not a for-profit service

That's the biggest problem-health care and health insurance should not be for profit! The incentives are all wrong. The same for education and safety forces, including the prison system.

First, that’s not how insurance has worked. Second, that’s an awful idea. Most people cannot negotiate particularly well. It’s not a personality flaw, it’s just a fact. So people will either get screwed, or have to hire an agent, meaning they’ll spend the money they’d “save” anyway.

So we pay taxes that will go into an account so we can give it to insurance companies- but *we* have to do our own negotiating, individually, with massive corporations?

I would be surprised if DJT ever had insurance before he became president. He looks like someone who never visited a doctor unless he was in pain, and then he just promised to pay the doctor directly and skipped out on the bill.

He has no clue how it works. Let's start w/the basic logistics. Who has the time to negotiate premiums? Has he ever tried to contest a denial for coverage? Does he know how much time that takes? And will insurance cos be hiring a bunch of reps to take care of all of this one-on-one negotiation?

Jesus. No wonder he went bankrupt so many times. He has completely no idea how any of this works does he? Just a failing upwards daddies boy who's managed to sell his soul and lie and cheat his way to the presidency, twice. Damn those Hong Kong bankers back in the day, he's finished without them.

People have all the time in the world to have negotiations about how much they should pay for healthcare, right? No recitals, no overtime, no home projects, etc etc Idiot is terminally out of touch - elect a trust fund baby and this is what you get

This is Trump’s solution to the healthcare crisis? Throw a bit of cash at people. It’s bereft of any leadership and concrete support to ensure people have healthcare. Trump must think people are stupid. Oh right, he’s always said he LOVES the uneducated.

I have worked and lived in Canada and Mexico and lemme tell you--there is nothing better than not having to think about healthcare or plans or co pays. You just show up, show your social insurance card and they fix you. Then you leave. No negotiations necessary.

Ummm. Many Americans do this already, minus the negotiation. We shop around and it, the options suck. Not that you’d know bc you probably haven’t shopped for anything in 50 odd years.

Shift risk & cost onto individuals while maintaining low taxes & regulation for corporations & wealthy donors. It’s essentially market-driven healthcare without strong consumer protections, leading to underinsurance, medical bankruptcies & widening inequality, which the ACA was designed to prevent.

Right…. Going to negotiate with the insurance company. Wonder how that will go. I hate to end up disappointed yet again, but I can’t imagine that even MAGA thinks this is a good idea.

So right now I pay $700 a month so that’s roughly $8400 a year. $50 co-pay and 150 for a specialist. With a $3800 deductible and a $9200 out-of-pocket. So Trump is gonna give me $20,000 or more for my health insurance?

Hello United Healthcare 🙂 I’m calling to negotiate my own insurance. Click. 😂😂😂 Hello? 😡 Hello United Healthcare 🥸 This is Donald Trump calling to negotiate my own insurance. Click. 😂😂😂 Trump: DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? 🤯 United Healthcare: Do you know who we are? 😈

Individuals don’t have leverage to negotiate with insurance companies. They don’t care about you as an individual. What a ridiculous idea.

“Trump Care”. Remember this grifter selling snake oil: Remember Trump University? Trump Atlantic City Casinos? Trump Sneakers? Trump Wine? Trump Bibles? All very similar to Trump’ Dream of flying a fighter jet spewing feces over all below.

I’m an entrepreneur. I started my own insurance business. No I don’t sell insurance, I just negotiate with insurance companies for my own health insurance. No I haven’t made any money yet but I’m so happy.

Because everyone wants to go out and negotiate their own insurance. Next, he'll have a copyright infringing gecko on there telling us we can do it "in 15 minutes or less". 🙄

That’s basically what happens under the ACA already. The money just goes directly to the insurers He’s so ignorant he has no idea what he speaks of about anything. Dumb. Dunce.

Aren't people better off negotiating in large groups like you get from the ACA? Don't think I want to spend weeks learning what is required and then searching and negotiating as ONE person against the health companies 😡

Not everyone can invest "like an entrepreneur" - They most likely will take any extra money and pay off outstanding bills, and then still be left without health insurance. His proposal only lets insurance companies charge whatever the hell they want to charge. Dang, push back on his nonsense!

That "account" is called the US Treasury where taxpayers have been putting their money expecting the government to supply the services they gave the money to the government to use to help us when we need it. We don't need a new account, we need the old one to face up to it's responsibilities.

I want to go back in time and DESTROY the person who taught him the words "DEAL" and "NEGOTIATE". He's horrible at both these things and only gets called a 'dealmaker' because he blackmails, threatens, cheats, extorts and you finally want to make him go away and give up, giving him what he wants...

This guy is clueless. The wealthy in this country have their own networks of private doctors & hospitals. They keep a doctor on retainer & are seen for whatever they need whenever they need it-often at home. They don’t have to deal with the tangle of copays, deductibles, networks. He has no idea.

You know what would make people feel like entrepreneurs? Not having to worry about health insurance so that they can start their own businesses or take their labor where they want. Best econ argument for single-payer is it would relieve pressure on SMB and encourage entrepreneurship.

because the media, including the lefties, who aren't really left but just center-left, is afraid of him and does not really have many whip smart journalists. look, they don't. msnbc is sad, bloated, padded.

If they eliminate a lot of the things required in the ACA, junk coverage policies will return. Low premiums will make low-use buyers happy until denials for preexisting conditions; hit an annual/lifetime cap; get dropped at end of years after expensive claims (with no hope of getting new coverage)

We live in a country where there’s power in numbers. So, wouldn’t you think that negotiating healthcare prices for 20 million would produce better rates than 1 person negotiating a price for themselves or their family?

Never mind this nonsense, I don’t want to be a healthcare entrepreneur. I don’t want to have to shop for insurance. I get insurance through my employer and we have two options. That’s as much shopping as I want to do and frankly, that’s more than I’d prefer. We just want to be fixed if we’re sick.

That is what the ACA is.Why don’t they look at the runaway compensation packages of the insurance CEOs and how they are rewarded for their high claim denial rate? Govt could improve coverage by demanding a better less costly product and then hold them accountable under the consumer protection agcy.
