Peter Navarro: "In an age of AI when all the white collar jobs are going away pretty damn quick, I think maybe it's a good time for people to think about having good blue collar jobs ... give tariffs a chance, because they're working"

Can you imagine what the headlines would look like if a Biden admin official ever said "all the white collar jobs are going away"? They would have broken into normal programming to report it immediately.

The heyday of Detroit blue collar jobs was because they were Union jobs. They don’t want the expensive UAW-style blue-collar jobs of the 1950s, they want the cheap, expendable jobs of the 1890s.

Wait, this is the administration's economic message now? Good paying professional jobs are gone forever. Everybody should be in the trades or a factory, and dammit, be happy about it! I don't think most Americans share their vision of 1950s-era Soviet Union being the utopian ideal.

Everything they do and say implies that it’s possible to wind the clock back 40years and then it will all be wonderful. The world doesn’t work that way and it’s doubtful that all the other countries on the planet would be willing to go along with that idea

Looking at Canada, Australia and New Zealand I think they may have jumped a bit too soon. They were just too keen to get their hands on those Native lands they were told to stay off ..... and keep the slaves [Somerset Law 1772] ....& their religious bigotry [Quebec Act 1774]. Panic in the colony.

Notice how the children of people who spew lines like this go to universities and work comfortable office jobs. They sell hardship to the middle class as an ethos, an ideal, to justify shattering class mobility and enriching themselves, just like they did with the bootstraps narrative.

These are the same nitwits who fight labor organizing and collective bargaining by blue collar workers every chance they get, right? They do know what made blue collar jobs middle class jobs, yes? Oh, friggin’ never mind. The ignorance and/or gaslighting is mind numbing.

That is not America First you idiot!!! We are the richest country in the history of mankind and you are telling Americans to go clock in at a non-existent factory job as an aspiration? FU 🖕🏽

Does he think people are falling for this bullshit? And “Just find another job!” Like there’s an army of businesses hiring. These people have no idea how the economy works.

The "AGAIN" part of MAGA was always about returning the masses to Robber Baron era subjugation in the previous time of tariffs. The last time record concentrated capital controlled everything. bsky.app/profile/atru...

If you freak out about immigrants taking "our jobs" or companies sending "our jobs" overseas, you should be just as panicked or more so that companies are planning on using AI to "our jobs." Are we really envisioning a world where AI does the brain work and humans are physical labor? Is that good?

I remember in the early 1900’s the Russian & Chinese version of this forcing people they didn’t think contributed to society to work on collective farms. Didn’t really work out well.

Interesting bc the only jobs I see vanishing are bank tellers, cashiers, customer service folks, etc. When AI replaces useless CEOs then I’ll listen, you stupid, stupid man

Great idea, you moronic felon. Let's turn the country into a serfdom run by criminals like you and the GQP. How did this imbecile earn a PhD in economics from Harvard? And UC-Irvine must be so proud that your 20 plus years on their faculty have produced scores of economic idiots.

I’m not going to say that having your supply chains onshore isn’t desirable, but what country has tried to move people back into manufacturing after creating more office jobs?

As someone who works with AI pretty consistently, i can say, without reservation, that blue collar jobs are not safe. Even if tariffs were working (they aren't), "blue collar" is less than a decade from joining "white collar." Google's VLA models with diffusion, Toyota's LBM model, etc.

And, if you wanna see something really fun, look into "HASEL actuators" and mentally combine that with "mixture of experts models." (This is an obvious combo that id guess is current undisclosed R&D) I think most will be able to see how potentially dangerous those will be to blue collar jobs.

Political economy strategy that has famously never worked continuing to not work, involving fleecing your citizens and somehow them not noticing, dreamed up by orange man who bankrupted companies and ripped off workers, somehow We are the problem and not Incompetent Actual Morons Up Top.

Yet another thing that Navarro doesn’t understand about economics- the labor market is affected by supply and demand too. If you have a big increase of workers seeking the same blue collar jobs, without the number of those jobs increasing apace, it will drive down wages. Is that what they want?

What if Dbl-Entry Accounting had been mandatory in high schools since 1950? How would that affect supply if every household had a Net Worth of $300,000 and nobody would work for bullshit?

go work on the assembly line, and don't forget, we'll be garnishing your wages for the student loans that you have, so you could get that office job that AI now does

The same folk tell us automation/AI robots are supposed to replace all the human blue collar, manufacturing, meat packing, mining, trucking, construction, etc. jobs & be safer for humans that way. Changed their minds, did they?

You want the truth? The full unadulterated truth? Corruption and predation depend on audacity that is fueled by weak and stupid fools who have no idea how absolute power corrupts absolutely. What you don’t know can and will kill you. What millions don’t know is killing us. youtu.be/ifIPBKIVGG0?...

Nope! Sorry ... trump and his merry grifters have already had numerous "chances" and have woefully failed each one. Tariffs are not working - ask anyone from average citizen to Nobel economists - the only ones who say they're viable is trump and other billionaires.

They want to destroy the middle class and have a never ending abundance of uneducated peasants to take care of the multimillionaires and billionaires. Welcome to the dystopian future that will look a lot like Oliver Twist London.

Yes, tariffs are real money reflected in government coffers. But it's just redistributed money from American businesses and consumers. So he's saying, "Hey!!!! Look at all the money the government took from you! Hooray! Tariffs are working!" Why are so many people not seeing this?

Drain all the cash out of the middle class and reduce us all to serfs and clientele. That’s always the objective of predatory elites in an oligarchy. Knock everyone down to the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy and keep them scrambling too hard for survival to revolt.

I support the trades if that's what Mr. Navarro means by "blue collar jobs". If he means manufacturing jobs, however, he is objectively wrong. We have lost manufacturing jobs since the tariffs were announced. The tariffs have not brought manufacturing work back to the U.S. They are not working.
