While work-life balance may give you a sense of happiness and fulfillment, it isn’t always realistic, says Walmart executive vice president and chief people officer Donna Morris.

My first job as an attorney was with a firm in which the senior partner took a month and a half vacation to the South Seas, came back, and immediately issued a memo declaring that the associates and staff were clearly not working hard enough and that layoffs would ensue if we didn't shape up.

And SHE's the 'chief people officer'? She should be SACKED. "Turn off your laptop" - tell that to your cashiers and warehouse workers. "Integration" - integrate away while you're working OT - yeah, that's the ticket. Pay your people so little that they need SNAP - now THAT's HR worth fighting for.

Or not work at Walmart because when in "EVER" in their history have they been a "great place to work"? Donna Morris is just another "overly" highly compensated C suite executive, the overly part comes at the expense of rank & file.

She's CEO of Walmart, a company that just sorta runs itself. Like, it's self-perpetuating at this point. Sure, she and tinker with this or that, and make some decisions, but at this point unless she's Zaslov, any decision she makes will be accepted by the buying public. It's all busy work, ma'am.

articles like this are always so funny both because rich people have no functional life advice to offer anyone below their tax bracket and also because they aren’t offering ‘advice’ anyway, they’re just paying for a virtual billboard that says ‘shut up and get back to work’

I encourage anyone who has a free morning to go interview at your local Walmart. The behind the scenes is like a sweatshop! I never knew so many people worked there! They're all in the back working hard and being timed. It's crazy. Never seen anything like it!

Work life balance would be earning enough to have a life. Not balancing work with the constant stress of keeping up with rising rents and bills. It's exhausting having this narrative pushed constantly. Can we just aspire to more than lives as cogs for making rich people richer.

Especially when your company specializes in denying benefits to its employees and keeping many of them poor enough to qualify for food stamps and medicaid.

I remember this Wall Street Journal graphic claiming that CEOs work 55 hour weeks, and maybe only 6 hours of it outside of meetings would be unambiguously considered work if they were in an entry level position.

Really telling that meetings, the thing that a lot of workers consider to be a waste of time and distraction from actually getting work done, is second only to the "explicitly not doing work" category.

I question whether or not they're actually accomplishing anything in most of the categories, public events are the only thing I'd think would be actual work for them, and that's assuming they're giving speeches or doing presentations.

This is a 30h work week with 1h lunch breaks, and 10-15h per week TOPS of actual work. They are handed millions of dollars, attention of the fawning press and the power to ruin lives for THAT. You know, I'm not advocating for anything drastic, but you cannot spell "executive" without "execute".

She looks awfully pleased with herself, for a person whose billionaire employers are so greedy that they don't even pay a living wage to most of their employees. Are we meant to admire this person? Take life lessons from her?

Y'all really thought you wrote something. Mention GenZ but don't interview anyone from that generation? Ask a bio-med engineer about work-life balance instead of a psychologist? The Walmart suit who gets all the PTO she could ever want tells the masses to balance having no bread with eating cake.

"Workers should not expect to be happy or healthy" says CEO of company notorious for treating its workers like shit and paying them less than they need to survive.

Fuck Walmart executive and president and chief people officer Donna Morris. That is surely what all the people she gives this speech to have to say. Oh, and fuck you for spreading her horse shit.

I don’t need to hear the opinion of a rich ghoul whose net worth is in the millions. Especially not when employees of her company need food stamps to not go hungry. Less propaganda plz, @cnbc.com

People forget that CEOs / C levels execs get to where they are not because of their people leadership skills… it’s their utter lack of compassion & empathy because they don’t care how many necks they have to step on to get to where they want to be. They will F over their mothers if it means more $$$

i wonder how Donna's work-life balance looks like. oh, it's $13 million dollars worth of balance wonder if she'd say the same shit if she was in a homeless shelter trying to balance 3 30-hour jobs a week (hours just low enough to not qualify for workplace benefits) with a child going hungry
