Couple things I learned today: - Seniors are extremely fired up about this - "Fuck ICE" is a normie position now - People are MASSIVELY pissed off about Sen. Padilla being wrestled to the ground in LA - We all we got, we all we need

Just to clarify here: the Philly march had lots of young people too. Some people have worried that there weren't many at their local protests or other events. Remember that wages have been stagnant for decades, people are trying to raise young families and it's tough to find spare time

They were young people out in SF than the April marches as well. The Mayday protests skewed younger, but were much smaller than I had hoped for. I think it’s a combination of things getting worse & younger progressives putting aside their frustrations with the establishment left. All hands on deck!

I dropped my husband off at a protest in a suburb of Los Angeles, where we live. I couldn't stay due to health issues.I could not believe the number of people who showed up-thousands. They were young, elderly, mid-aged, white, Latino, black, Asian, folks w/kids. This is what makes LA so great!

We had an Amazon prime trailer towed by an independent trucker go through. Every time he saw a "honk if you think Trump is a moron" sign, he laid on his horn. The crowd roared.

I was really surprised to meet several vets at our protest today. One big guy was even in camo fatigues. At first, I mistook him for a counter protester. I’m not sure what that means, but I’ve been to many protests over several decades, never been on the same side as military before.

you are right right right, Ian Boudreau! Yep, this is a tiny darling speck of a town in the middle of South Carolina. Seniors are mad as hell! And check out the Handmaids Tale at bottom. Yup.Yup, she's a senior! There is HOPE ❤️🌼🌺

When a few of us protested illegal detention of immigrants in MN 5 years ago, Fck ICE signs were frowned upon! It took detention of 'normies: students, coworkers, known neighbors to push the needle. Its a good thing, if a bit late.

Yes I noticed first hand. I think a lot of the protesters were around before the frog was thrown in the pot. I thought the younger people not representing was indicative of a generation born in the almost boiling pot. But the elders were showing up!

glad to hear they're pissed re padilla. i found it really depressing that it mostly fell out of the news yesterday given the zone-flooding from fotus. that was a bfd so i'm glad to hear it's resonating with people.

Fox blamed Padilla for the incident. It was an astonishing article to read. All in all it was shocking, but I think especially so b/c Padilla had been escorted to the press conference by two members of security services (I think Marshals and another) and Noem's goons MUST have seen them arrive.

god yea. they are the worst. i am a glutton for punishment and i read the fox news viewer comments on the article on the fox website a few hours after it happened. was pretty bleak. 0 stars. do not recommend. the mental gymnastics ... unreal

my friend and i were surrounded by many older people at the protest. they were wonderful. as they were leaving they said that they were happy we were there. that us younger people are giving them hope. some shook our hands. it was a beautiful moment of solidarity.

They are putting the whole video sequence together where she says they are there to "liberate" (she used that word) CA from the Socialist Mayor and Governor. Of course he had a question. They could have just stood between them, let him ask his ?. The manhandling was awful, she should have stopped it

That Fox is a right-wing news outlet was my point. During the massive defamation lawsuit against Fox, Murdoch admitted Fox News was entertainment, not news. Sorry, can't find the quote.

We rode the bus from our neighborhood in Portland to the main protest downtown, and the first satellite protest we passed was outside of a retirement home (and there was no shortage of silver hairs on the bus itself).

I saw really old veterans in wheelchairs. I saw parents with little babies wearing headphones for the noise. And I saw tons of college kids (Caly Poly town). Here are two students, they were the rhythm section for the chants, doing one last riff on their way home after the protest ended.

We got a taste of the collective power we have when we come together-that’s the plan, repeat over and over, bring in new people and energy. We got this‼️‼️‼️💙✌🏼👍✊🏼

If our nations ICE wasn’t largely replaced with pardoned Jan 6th insurrectionists who were being once again incited by a felon president and led by a racist Trump empowered appointed administration they wouldn’t be getting this amount of nationwide citizen pushback.

As a newly old person, 8 am far more upset and concerned at this point about the loss of women's rights, the end of dei, and the mobilization of military and violent vigilantees. I am also pissed about the cuts and I also want wealth deconsolidated. But, for me, the immediate real ground lost....

in the long fight for civil human rights, that is the stuff that once you give an inch, you lose decades of ground. IE. Abortion won't be settled law again for probably decades. The single biggest determinant of community health and well being is the well being of its women. I don't think ss...

and medicare cuts will come easy for the gop, amd will be very easy to roll back. It is simply foolish of the gop to go after healthcare and ss. The systems work great. Everyone likes them. Very hard. They will try. Because, unlike abortion & voting rights, ss and medicare are liked by white men.

I would add, MAGA counteprotesters are outnumbered to the point of irrelevance. In my deep red county, we turned out more than 750 people. MAGA had four vehicles that drove up and down the street...a pathetic handful of losers

Mad props to all of you that protested in Red States, Towns and Counties! I am in awe of your bravery and determination to go out despite being surrounded by MAGA looney toons. People were nervous about violence *here*, and the risk was nowhere near as great. ❤️ to you all! 👊🇺🇲🔥

Small red Ohio city here. Got about 200, biggest yet. Only counterprotesters were pickup drive-bys. One belched black smoke at us, the other kept returning over and over. One big Trump truck at a previous protest got pulled over by 3 cops, possibly for blasting a siren that broke noise ordinances.

I am 60, Gen X . One of the oldest - from the generation of heavy metal. I grew up in a time where Putin was evil and presidents didn’t pull this crap on America citizens. Boomers were the original hippies . Of course we are pissed .

Great. But Republicans know it as elections don’t matter anymore. Just remember what he said and that it always leads to the truth. “We don’t need your votes. You want have to vote again “ Elon saying if Trump didn’t win he would be arrested. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

I attended a No King protest today. InHyannis Ma. So proud of everyone there; a huge number of seniors; we show up! Grandparents and parents are going to need to teach their children about History and citizenship; it’s no longer taught in schools.

Seeing protests was heartening for me, north of the border. An assassin killed two people, shot two more, but y’all held firm. I know that this gives feeling of empowerment, taking action with millions of others. But you can’t stop - keep up pressure, keep going with protests. It’s a long haul.

You got that right ☔️ San Luis Obispo Co California are disgusted with 8647,Kristi Noem, & ice goons. Tears formed in my wife’s eyes ☺️ at the enormous turnout for NO KINGS🥰

I'm 77, this is probably because we are seeing so many positive programs and policies that we are used to having going by the wayside by this repressive, pathetic excuse for a president. He should be in jail not the White House but he steals his way in as always. #NoKings

Also so many of us are on Medicare and have social security as a significant part of our income that we have a stake in his policies that may affect our way of life. If we can't fight for ourselves who's going to do it?

We saw him finagling his way to get around the law over and over again. He stacked the Supreme Court on purpose and we are furious at the lack of balance and lack of punishment.

He's going to be 80 next maybe we'll get lucky and he'll disintegrate, but I'd like to see him pay some kind of price before he does. The documents case just went poof into thin air. I despise him for getting over on the country.

Us seniors are pissed! We worked too many years to have these idiots trying to take our earned benefits. We also want our kids and grandkids to have the same stable government we've had for most of our lives.

Yes!! And women’s rights too, I’m outraged about just about everything right now, but nothing infuriates me more than knowing my granddaughter today does not have the rights that were stolen from us. She will not be a brood mare. We are the guardians of democracy now. We are not going back🖕🇺🇸✌️✊

Yep. And please don't call those of us who are older "blue hairs." People in their 60s and 70s today are not what people were at that age once. There are 80-year-old rock stars now. And some of us have been online 30+ years. Don't assume we're little old ladies still using VCRs (that flash 12:00).

Most definitely women's rights. I say this daily, it our decision what happens to our bodies. No one should have that right but us. Im past menopause, so I have absolutely no tolerance for stupid anymore!

People who grew up in the 40s, 50s and 60s are well schooled in WWII history, the civil rights movement, and the women’s movement (we used to call in women’s liberation, so unfitting now). We’ve marched before and will again.

The military and ICE on our streets, the men-in-black kidnappings, Garcia, plus the tipping point of Senator Padilla’s assault did it. Trump couldn’t have scripted a more perfect way to wake us up and ensure their electoral demise for years to come. They will be Trump-stuck for a long time. I’m 70.

I think back to the Women’s March and how it seemed to spearhead the dems success in the 2018 midterms. IF we can still all vote and all his enemies arent whisked off somewhere, i hope it has the same effect.

First thing my 21 year old daughter said when we got to the protest today was it didn’t look like many her age there. When I looked around I realized it was a lot from the generations before me & I pointed out they’ve done this before. In the 60s. And they’re back. Thank goodness.

Kristi was explicitly saying "we're going to get rid of your leadership and replace them" and one of those leaders said "you can't do that" and was arrested. California liberals love to brag about democratic values. That really really pissed a lot of people off!

Senior’s parents lived through the depression- pre SS. They fought in WWII. They told us the stories. We fought and died in VN, we protested against that war. We’ve erred (you will too), but we are a perfect ally and even shield for younger generations.

Sometimes I have to sigh and accept that I am a normie. Growing up is weird; because I used to be counterculture. Anyway yes, this normie put a sign in his car window that reads 🖕ICE.

Totally agree! And it seems "ICE is the gestapo" is where the general sentiment is landing if my unscientific survey of signs I remember seeing today is any indication

I’m 100% behind our seniors! Well, obviously everyone, but especially our seniors. I’ve SEEN some of the elderly out there on the lines! But, tbh, in many ways I’m not shocked. Many of them lived through the civil rights movement.

They lived in a world before certain rights were established only to turn around, in just a smidge over 50 years (for some, less for others), and have them stripped or almost stripped away. We’re not dealing with the boomers of yesterday. We have the hippies gathering en masse.
