There is a bright red line that the entire world agreed not to cross 80 ish years ago. This admin came in throwing the salute. They willingly gave up their humanity.
I thought we had a whole fucking maritime fleet in these waters? They couldn’t send a Coast Guard cutter to collect evidence (if there was any) and arrest these alleged traffickers?
Now do that logic for U Boats - the American survivors clinging to wreckage could have floated to safety and rejoined the war effort so were legitimate targets. Everyone in this chain of murderers needs to stand trial
This wasn't Al Qaeda
This wasn't The Taliban
This wasn't ISIS
This wasn't ISIS-K
This wasn't Iraqi Insurgents
This was dudes in a boat. Who **maybe** had some cocaine. Which didn't have the range to reach the US
Not since the Haditha Massacre has the US committed an atrocity like this.
Double-tap is very misleading here, it implies strikes in quick succession. They scratched their loathsome chins about it for 41 minutes, watching these two guys struggle to overturn their wrecked boat, before deciding nah, hit 'em again
They kind of backed themselves into a corner after the first unsuccessful strike. If they survived 40 minutes, there became a chance that they might survive longer - long enough to tell a story they'd not like anyone to know.
i don't think anyone should be given the benefit of the doubt that they were against it and dithered. it's the end of 2025 and anyone that deeply involved knew what was happening
The way "double tap" is used in the context of the Russia/Ukraine conflict is that Russia will often send a strike to the same location about half an hour later, designed to kill emergency responders.
That's the same way the US uses it in the context of every President since George W. Bush. People acting as if this reprehensible and atrocious war crime is new are being very selective in their outrage.
Gave it 30 minutes with no show of rescue so ordered the Double Tap.
International legal bodies view deliberate use of the double-tap to target rescuers a serious violation because -
Willful Killing/Targeting of Civilians
Failure to Distinguish
Attacking Protected Personnel
Denial of Quarter
I would need about 0.1 seconds: Oh, somebody is still alive, who is close enough to provide assistance?
Not hard, is it?
Of course I wouldn't have been in the room anyway. I have no aspirations to visit The Hague.
I’ll never vote for a republican ever, but if anyone thinks that a future Democratic administration would ever prosecute these fucking war criminals/murderers, they’re dreaming. Can you say Abu Ghraib and J6?
The second Trump administration has for me been the point where I no longer perceive Ben Garrison as a kooky goofball drawing quirky cartoons but as a genuinely evil and authoritarian individual with this being a good example:
And the media is missing the more relevant question (which they will never ask) - the double tap is a red herring - there is no legal justification for the *first* strike *even if* they are actually drug trafficking. There is no such right.
We keep evaluating the “double tap” under the rules of war, when it is murder, plain and simple. These guys might have been the scum of the earth and smuggling drugs, that does not make it legal to kill them.
But don’t lose sight of the big picture. No where under federal law is there capital punishment for drug trafficking. If these guys had been caught off the coast of Florida, they would have been arrested, charged and tried with due process, not summarily executed.
*blinks*
There is no universe in which the above-described scenario isn't "foul murder." The correct response at that stage would be to send in a rescue, and if you think there is indeed cocaine in the wreckage, collect it as goddamn evidence.
Ok even if that bullshit logic is accepted, you still don’t get to murder people bc you suspect they are transporting narcotics. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills
