NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader. So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

Thank you for doing what you do. I know you must be exhausted from trying to explain why people should be more than “mildly concerned“ about what is going on in this country and the effects it has on the world! At least they may listen to you because of your education.

When I, a reader, profess my incredulity regarding the state of mind of the person committing unlawful acts, I’m not doing so to solicit a response from you but to vent my antipathy toward the lawbreaker thus indicating that I do, in fact, care.

And even if someone gets away with breaking the law for a season, it is still worth pointing out the entire time. Pointing out that someone is breaking the law is implicitly a demand that the rule of law should be the standard. So please, please keep pointing it out!

Thank you! Please keep bothering me. I wouldn't know about legal things unless a great lawyer takes the time to explain it to me. I will only speak for myself. If people are following you, you're doing something right.

Also, the sky is blue. When people respond with "so what" it's because Trump is doing something illegal almost every day. Yes. We know this is a criminal enterprise. That's already well documented. Get someone in power to do something about it or else what's the fucking point of bringing it up?

1. Please share with the group what concrete measures *you* took today to “get someone in power to do something about it?”. 2. You can file “or else what's the fucking point of bringing it up?” in the “doesn’t sell” category of your market research.

It isn’t a workable solution which is why you should share your latest actions to hold the President to account. Think of it as market research. Professor Greene shared what he knows to be legally true about *today’s* announcement. One day. One.

There comes a time when the people move the lawyers and courts aside, and take care of business as it has been done since time began. Fascists require manual extraction once the courts fail. I can wait for this house of cards to collapse. As it sends the backers of it scattering like cockroaches.

what does caring do though? legality is only meaningful if it is enforced and i have no power to hold anyone accountable to the law. the law isn't a god that will answer my prayers if i believe hard enough, it is a thing enforced by the state.

I see a lot of supposed lawyers on here claiming some act is unlawful when it clearly isn't. People need to go read Article 2 and get over it. Suspending Immigration law with EOs and ignoring court orders telling you to cease and desist is unlawful...

We do care. The response is just to note the indifference to the law by president and the frustration with the acquiescence or complicity of the MAGA GOP congress and MAGA SCOTUS to this lawlessness.

Okay, but I can't do anything about it, and virtually everyone who could has chosen not to. I understand where you're coming from, but surely you can see that when people make flippant remarks like that it's coming from a place of frustration at seeing the entire apparatus of justice utterly fail.

Laws only mean anything if they're enforced. It's always been the case that they're enforced selectively, with the rich and well-connected generally being shielded from the consequences of their lawbreaking. Under Trump II any pretense that all are equal under the law has been destroyed.

Some of these responses are mocking in tone, posted by committed nihilists. Others are probably just an expression of frustration in the moment, by people who do care. Yeah, we should restrain the impulse, but in this timeline, it’s hard not to occasionally give in to despair.

I get this - and agree. But people are saying something else when they flippantly reply “like he cares.” They’re looking for the action they can take. Yes, it’s not normal or acceptable. Yet our only action is to vote a year from now? How do we stop the next 11 months of harm, suffering, and death?

Depends on the action. Notice. Inform your family and friends. Vote. Protest. Support legal actions. Archive all this. Help others. Do not normalize; which is what not caring, not noting, and expecting Republicans to rein it in will do.

THIS. I also mostly see this from white men and women. Discouraging voters and pushing young people into the “why bother voting if both sides are exactly the same” and other right wing talking points that lead to low voter turnout which only benefits you guessed it republicans.

If they want to just rage I get that but go rage against racists bigots and republicans. Discuss your frustrations with democrats at town halls by calling/writing them meeting with them joining in at a county level to help them move things along quicker. Etc. we don’t need to air out dirty laundry

Why the fuck SHOULD I care? For the entirety of Trump's first term and most of Biden's presidency the *finest* legal minds churned out endless slop for MSNBC viewers' red meat, and what did it all result in? A single conviction for improperly paying a sex worker. Which he served zero time for.

Can we stop avoiding reality and call it what it is? Claiming extrajudicial murders are allowed by law is the final stage of a regime intent to commit genocide. For those who don't understand how fascist dictatorships devolve into persecution, violence and other crimes, we're living it now.

That’s so funny. I was just thinking about how I, as an educated woman and lawyer with an impressive knowledge of abortion rights in this country, repeatedly post about a current attack to our abortion rights, it’s not because my thumbs have nothing to do. It’s so people can act on the information.

Trump has single-handedly demonstrated that our entire legal system is a fragile fiction. He breaks the law, nobody enforces it. He loses in court, he bumps to a higher court where he owns the judges. He usurps Congress' power, the speaker shuts down the vote. What do you want us to do, exactly?

I think this clip from Fox News perfectly encapsulates why a lot of Americans don't really care about the illegality of what their lawbreakers are doing. "If they're clever enough to get away with it and I don't understand it, then who am I to question it?" bsky.app/profile/atru...

Caring is a starting point for knowledge, and knowledge is a starting point for action. Small steps like staying aware and just speaking out on social media are meaningful if not immediate.

Trump not caring and that mattering to the point his not caring has made him invincible exposes that we need to do more than just care that he is unlawful. The system that can be so easily bypassed needs to be gutted and rebuilt.

The thing is, if he doesn't get Congress to pass laws about changing the name of the Kennedy Center and Department of Defense (which he won't because it's too toxic with the midterms less than a year away), all the next Congress needs to do is direct the removal of all the Trump signage.

We need more than norms to constrain the president. Many people already care so it's past time to start talking about what replaces norms in the future to prevent a third Trump. We can not just go back to respecting norms like Biden tried.

Someone’s got to care! Which is kind of the whole lesson of the Trump era. Things have gotten so out of hand precisely because not enough people in the position to directly intervene, care. It’s maybe the main issue!

You of all people should understand that an act with no consequences is de facto legal, regardless of what's written. The law is always applied unequally, but right now the inequality is at absurd levels.

The fact that I "care" about whether something is illegal or not is completely pointless.

When they respond “do you think he cares” they are reacting to the information and expressing the dismay at knowing nothing will happen. They are informing you thay they are upset. That is what humans do. They are telling you they care. Don’t police the way they do it.

Furthermore, everyone who supports him should have to answer for why they support an abolition of morality and human decency as if it were for lesser beings or a tool to be used to punish only enemies. And we should be clear we know they love cruelty.

Inapposite. Did you write this just for us lawyers?😉 [btw I had to "add" it to my PC's spell checker] And it raises an excellent point - even if he does not care, the rest of us must. [lawyer for 45+ years here]
