“My instinct is to not sue him” Because his description of a sad divorced dad eating meals for one and sleeping in a race car bed were true Glinner? That’s the reason isn’t it. Can’t sue for the truth.

I know there's so many things wrong with Graham Linehan. But kills me that he claims he's been fighting for the rights of his wife. While at the same time, slags off the series she co-created stating that the only good season is the one he was involved in.

With date and nature of offense carefully annotated. But he's not mad at them. At all. He wants it on the record that he is not, in fact, mad at them.

I do seem to recall an interview with Mathews maybe four or five years ago where he refers to Linehan as "a mate", but hasn't done much to defend him, and has been on one of The Lists. So I think he may have just been politely trying to keep out of it.

It's a world of Skinner_The_Children_Are_Wrong.jpg & honestly as the daughter of a man who had a breakdown and would get Like This about family & friends who tried to set boundaries/didn't just go along with everything his mania demanded, any outlet with ethics would stop publishing his rants.

This is a man who, when I pointed out the parallels between GC rhetoric and the rhetorics historically used to justify genocide, called me a psychopath.bWhen I told him that if he was prepared for an online confrontation, I was ready, older, equally talented and probably smarter, he laid off.

He's apparently living in Arizona and working with Rob Schneider, I'm not sure he can fuck any farther off. But any efforts to do so will be appreciated.

Their only companion left in the world is literally the last person in their entire lives that can stand to be in a room with them. I have zero doubt both consider themselves mavens of comedy in that wanky Gervais fashion, yet neither has spotted the fuckin trope they are living in.

I’ve just this morning listened to that chapter on the audiobook and it just paints Linehan as a tremendously sad and angry man. It was very measured. Given it came from six hours of interviews between them I’m not sure what his lawyers will find.

“My marriage ended when I refused to stop fighting for the rights of my wife” is one of those things that should make you check yourself

Yeah the right wing uses the word protect differently. Well more like 'I protect my car by locking it'. It's more about protecting the patriarchal control over women and children.

He's a bit off in his thinking. Father Ted is an extremely irreverent show that some people find offensive. To pair that history with anti-trans activities as though he's devoutly conservative religious is so weird of him, too. He must be absolutely awful to be around in person.

I've already read Jon Ronson's book. He GOES OUT OF HIS WAY to not not make Glinner look like the repellent piece of shit he's become, and it leads like he's geniunely sorry to have lost their friendship. This reaction is just more Linehan insanity.

Probably figured "1) British libel laws are shite and I don't need the hassle and 2) He'll out himself as a repellent POS soon enough anyway, he won't need my help."

Graham Linehan is so obviously an unhinged loser that even other transphobes don’t want to be associated with him They’re all ‘I agree with you, but come on, you’re making us look bad’

Do you mean uncomfortable truths about people who think that everyone shld be,& live, like them? U Ts about those who indulge in gratuitous cruelty? Or about the ignorant who don't know that Trans people have existed throughout human history? If so, then how cld anyone disagree??

“My instinct is not to sue him” presumably became he knows a raft of Penguin lawyers* will have lawyered the heck out of every word before it went to the printers. * yes, I know you’re now thinking of actual penguins. Stop it.

When “almost every friend” has abandoned you, it takes a record breaking lack of self awareness not to consider that the problem might lie with you, not them.

About 15 years ago, two (2) people I cared about suddenly dropped me in the space of a month - one irl, and one online. I nearly had a meltdown about how I must be The Worst tm, except all other friends I confided in assured me it wasn’t my fault. If it had been practically all of my friends…

There's always the option for him to NOT speak so loudly, arrogantly, bigoted in public, and ppl might one day think "Oh yeah, that guy. Wrote some delightful shows, became an utter asshole. What happened to him?" And then he could theoretically come back! And write nice shows and not be an asshole!

this is wild … Bigoted man gets sooo mad people close to him wouldn’t support his bigotry, that he publishes writing about it, at the same time crying that no one else should have the right to publish anything negative about him! what a disaster of a man.

"But I'm not mad about it. Please let it be noted for the record I'm not mad at him, or at anyone else on my carefully curated list of People Who Have Betrayed My Friendship."

He has got an alphabetical list, hasn’t he? ‘And those are just the ‘B’s…’ (Like some mad version of ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’).

The thing with all the ex-friends and family he lists as traitors is that they have never aggressively criticised him publicly. They just told him to tone it down a bit and/or take a bit of time off from the transphobia every once in awhile and he couldn't even tolerate that.

That's pretty spot-on for how it started. People didn't care for an awful portrayal of a trans woman in The IT Crowd and rather than learn something he was like "guess I'll just destroy my entire career and identity over this"

All he had to do was reply to the incredibly mild criticism and say ‘yea, in hindsight that was pretty yikes. I’d like to think I’ve gotten a bit smarter with time passing’ or indeed not respond at all. He could have ignored it to death at the time.

And he was an early adopter on Twitter and one of the first big accounts on there, so he got used to large crowds of people agreeing with him and swarming anyone who disagreed. Seems like that might have been unhealthy!

Let's be honest, when someone tells you that you're acting like a jerk, it DOES hurt. It makes you uncomfortable, trying to square that criticism with your sense of self. So obviously, the only thing to do is throw away all your friends and continue doubling down for 10-15 years.

Only true some of the time - what is consistently true is that *when the population is polled* men are *significantly* more gender critical than women. Doesn't make them automatically wrong/invalid - but it's obviously a salient point that tends to be ignored rather than engaged with.

I'm just so tired of this. A decade or so ago, I was told by the female deputy head that I had to buy my daughter a new school uniform that would hide her body shape as her appearance was distracting male students and MALE STAFF. She was 14 years old. We're either too womanly or not feminine enough.

It's a pretty consistent lazy rhetorical habit that people just ignore inconvenient subgroups - almost everyone does it, but in this case it's really overt because it's not even ignoring the smaller share but the larger.
