It takes a special kind of Guy to look at all the circumstances of Brett Kavanaugh's career arc and reach the passive-voice conclusion that Kavanaugh "was forced" to join the Supreme Court's conservative wing. But Noah Feldman? He is that special kind of Guy. noahfeldman.substack.com/p/brett-kava...

Nevermind that even if this is true, someone with that (admittedly relatable, but utterly disqualifying) disposition should never occupy the robe of the most impartial, scholarly, constitutionally principled justice in the entire country

LOL. "I believe Kavanaugh really valued his ties across the ideological spectrum" is world-class short bus nonsense for anyone who understands what he did with Kenneth Starr. He is a rabid partisan on a mission. Even those can fake comity to keep a cushy Ivy League job.

So we have someone with a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court who is so emotionally weak that he interprets the Constitution and US laws based entirely on his feelings about who likes him? K.

Kavanaugh has been gunning to succeed Roberts as Chief. His forays into performative (and hollow) moderation. His attempts to shore up the Court’s tanking legitimacy by authoring explanatory concurrences to shadow docket decisions. His former WH counsel and D.C. Circuit bona fides match Roberts’

He tries to ingratiate himself with the GOP—preserving their favor for a future nomination—while also displaying some (highly superficial) ‘institutionalist’ tendencies Issue is, he can’t erase that first confirmation fiasco; and Roberts will cling to power until Kavanaugh ages out of viability

incredible that there’s a woman named “Christine Blassi Ford”, what are the odds there’d be two women with accusations against Kavanaugh having so similar a name

It’s always been insufferable when pundits reason from personal connections this way, but the elite law school version has become viscerally repulsive in a way that feels somewhat new. Were the Kavanaugh hearings the tipping point, or Amy Chua and Jed Rubenfeld…?

It’s framed as a defense of kavanaugh when it is in actuality an argument that kavanaugh was entirely unfit for the job, someone who rules out of spite rather than the law

Which, TBF, was something he admitted (or threatened, depending on your POV) at his confirmation when he said that what goes around comes around.

[pulls up a chair, turns it around around, sits down] okay ladies, let me explain to you the REAL reason you don't have rights anymore

There's so much misogyny here from subject and author alike they can't even spell they woman's name right. It's Christine Blasey Ford. That's her maiden name and the one Kavanaugh knew her as when he assaulted her.

I still remember her testimony that she escaped and ran to the bathroom because it resonated with me so much because that’s the exact place I ran to for safety from my attacker.

Matt Bors: in my comic I show someone adopting an abhorrent personality in response to liberal judgement as a cautionary tale Conservatives: We have developed abhorrent personalities in response to liberal judgement like in that one Matt Bors comic

his evidence that Kav used to be a centrist is that even his liberal law school students liked him, because who would law students be more honest with about how they felt about a professor than one of his professor friends at the same school

With great power comes great responsibility…unless you’re a conservative Supreme Court Justice. In a side note, one of his interns should hand Kavanaugh a binder with all of the news articles detailing how the guy that appointed him has wrecked families and friendships. Buy some perspective, Kav.

I think most conservative behavior can be blamed on liberals. Modern US conservatives, unlike liberals, moderates, and normal people, lack free will or agency. So we can't hold them responsible for their behavior. It follows that it's inappropriate to put conservatives in decision making positions.

You're telling me the guy who worked under Ken Starr to impeach Bill Clinton and for George W. Bush to stop the Florida recount in 2000 only became conservative due to liberal bullying? A perfect encapsulation of the "only Democrats have agency" media framing. Amazing.

It's amazing that a single hearing can completely alter a wannabe judge's entire philosophy like that. Wow. Dislodged from his core principles by a few pesky questions from his inferiors. Now that's pure strength!

There are skills at lawyering, but no one will convince you that all lawyers are equally as talented as fast a fedsoc dumbass talking about how a republican justice is the smartest guy/gal ever.
