But those cost a LOT of money, who is going to pay for those to be at every home and huge ones for power companies? Who is going to pay for the heavier connections you will need? WE have SO much solar power here in the Netherlands, but batteries are the issue and power surges. 1/2

Some days ( in winter last year) there is just fog, so there is no wind and no solar power coming in. So we need gas still. Most solar panels are also made in China, so we are still dependent on them. It's great when you work at home though and can use appliances during that time. Free power!

Which we have, and every house in our area does too. New houses are built with them, also rental ones. But everyone comes home at the same time, and then wants to charge their EV, use induction plates, heat pump etc. Hardly anyone has a battery yet, so it's an issue atm.

The fucking idiot also made some comment about windmills saying something about “they don’t work if the winds not blowing. You can’t make up this level of fucking stupid.

The Santa Ana winds were blowing hard and my neighbor's 8-year-old said "I bet the windmills are storing lots of electricity today" and how is it that a grade schooler gets the concept of wind & solar energy better than the Interior Secretary?

I've said this before. There are high school dropouts in Third World countries taking a pause from their reading of classics like Tolstoy, to balk and are befuddled at the level of stupidity that is leading this nation for this long. Happy trails.

I guarantee you the only reason why he was picked as the secretary of the interior was to get some oil drilling contracts for the Trump family and himself.. of course he's gonna play dumb

Or a 2-level barrage, or a McPhy Magnesium Hydrure system, or a Hydrolizer, or a sand heat storage, or... Anything that stores energy, in a more or less efficient and environnement-friendly way.

You.Are.Wicked!! and I'm here for it!! But seriously, those are questions that SHOULD be asked of these fellows. They should be shown, if they can learn, that they don't have even the minimum fundamental knowledge and competence for the job, and they should seek some other kind of job.

This clown Bergum was a fucking governor of a State here in America?!?And he doesn’t know what a battery is for? This is their argument for wind power too,“well when the wind ain’t blowing, these wind mills don’t produce power!”How in the fuck do these people get important jobs in government?WTAF USA?

The real answer is that electricity usage is much higher during the day. Depending on season and location as much as 100% higher in the day. So the solar offsets the high usage times and drastically lowers prices. Add wind for all hours and a base of gas fired generators and it’s a robust SYSTEM.

Yepp. Break the news: did not use the grid for 6 weeks now because of these two magnificent inventions. Works. Even in Scandinavia

Billionaires should just stay in their lane, Great Plains Software ND, later sold to Microsoft for $1.1 billion in stock...not the US government.

Gravity batteries storing huge amounts of energy have been built in Switzerland (Nant de Drance-900MW) and being built in China with Swiss help (RudongEVx). More on the way. This admin is saying America is too stupid to compete in that arena.

The US isn’t too stupid en masse to comprehend these things. Our lawmakers are owned by fossil fuel barons. It’s so easy to manipulate oil markets; just start a war! Renewable energy markets aren’t as easily manipulated. Wind and sun are free; how are billionaires going to benefit from them?

Short term energy storage is relatively easy with current battery tech, and will only get cheaper (also help with local grid voltage regulation). Grid scale medium and long term energy storage, required in higher lattitude countries like the UK is more expensive and complex.

Modelling shows that for a zero carbon grid, the UK will need to shuffle energy between months and seasons. There's lots of potential options, but some require specific geography (pumped storage for example) or rely on tech not done at scale (hydrogen storage in salt caverns).

When the oil companies own a president, this is what you get. Or, maybe (likely), he can't wrap his head around the fact this ain't the '70s any more and going "green" would vitalize employment and the economy as well as help just a little with what Mom Earth has in store for us.

Perhaps we should think that this guy knows better and is just supporting the petro industry position but the fact of the matter is that these people really are that stupid. People - please stop equating wealth with intelligence.

So what happens when oil/coal/gas prices skyrocket because, IDK, some orange fool picks a war of choice with a major oil/coal/gas exporter? IG the world will never know...

#Americans politicians aren't stupid. They are voluntarily and vocally ignorant so they can get the stupid voters (~35% of voters) to consistently vote and support them.

EXACTLY!! What in the actual hell is wrong with these people - coal or whatever vs clean energy? Do they think we're stupid and don't understand how clean energy works? They are all just lying liars and they know it. So, yes, they are just earning their bribes. This GQP sh*t is so exhausting! 🤬🤬🤬

When corrupt oil barons fund Super PACs to elect sycophantic politicians, this is the result. Well-groomed "manboys" and "girlygirls" are paid by taxpayers. But once they are in the House and Senate, they serve the will of billionaire oil barons, and disseminate lying fat bully Trump's falsehoods.

Not to mention the fact that network load plummets at night, considering that the extreme amount of power use is for commercial purposes, which only occur during the day. Battery assisted solar is an extremely effective power production method.

While this strikes me as a, "this didn't happen" it does speak to a core issue that people wildly exaggerate bird fatalities by windmills. Are there birds killed by turbines? Probably. But weigh that against how many birds are killed by fossil fuel pollution.

I've read that other countries that have windmills paint one blade black and that keeps the birds from flying into the blades. It seems to work and yet the idiots who build windfarms in America can't seem to handle that kind of technology.🙄

And these aren't even flaring 20' pillars of flame all night like some of the ones in the basin! (Drove through there's at night and could've gone without headlights in much of it, it was like driving through hell.)

In the meanwhile I take stunningly beautiful photos of my local windmills in the NorCal fog, looking like they're floating in another dimension, glimpsed through a break in the fog.

I'm from NorCal! Where are the turbines near you? East Bay along the 24? I'm doing preliminary sketches for paintings featuring wind turbines to prove the point that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." But honestly, saying they're ugly is a terrible reason to not save the planet, LOL.

Dougie Burgum - in thrall to oil/gas/coal - he's not stupid - just highly paid by various lobby groups. And since Drumpfy hates windmills because they ruined his view in Scotland, Dougie is happy to kiss his ass. $2 billion to French company to NOT build windmills. Our Money. FFS.

but but but BUUUUUT, the secretary fellow is *technically* right; solar panels don't produce electricity once the sun goes beddy-bye. If he meant that there will be no post-sun-beddy-bye *supply* of electricity, he's a confounded moron, as the congressperson rightly implied so very subtly!

So the Trump administration continues to parade its intelligence in front of America and the world! Its supporters don’t know see the dimwittedness which is (with the help of the past-its-time electoral college) why this country is a continuing catastrophe.

The industry is "Electric Storage Systems." The "batteries" are a LOT bigger than anything we think of as a "battery." It's a growing field, and the leading companies are ... wait for it ...... located in China and Korea. They're companies like CATL, BYD, and LG Energy.

Kind of like not-having-witch-hunting panics in yer military, Republicans are trying to say since 1976, 'This stuff could never work,' while rest of the world's all like: What, it could never work like all this stuff works everywhere else?

I created an animation for Commonwealth Edison 20-some years ago, about a technology for storing excess energy as ice. It's a project called Northwind, it makes ice all night long, cold water being distributed through tunnels to buildings, so they don't need electricity for air conditioning.

In 2019 we had 15 solar panels and a back up battery installed on our house, after getting it set up with the power company we cut our electric bill on half and what we don't use we sell back to the power company. We average about $50.00 a month, even with changing our electric car.

Zzziiing! Fucking idiot. He knows better but he’s speaking to the drove of MAGAts out there lapping up his oral defecation. Plus, the fact that he’s pleasing his incontinent, dementia, ridden, pedophile master-Trump.

Normal batteries aren't very efficient, so what you want to do is what the Norwegians do and install a water battery. Basically use spare power to pump water up into a lake during the day, and overnight, let it come down and run some turbines. Much more efficient, and no rare earth metals required.

The old joke about the man who built a rocket to go to the sun. Friends said you're nuts you'll burn up. His response was "Don't worry, I'm going at night." (the joke referenced a man of a certain nationality which I will not use).

And the "point" was that solar power can be stored in batteries that can produce electricity at night. Therefore solar energy can be used whether or not the sun is shining. What other "point" did you think they were discussing? It WAS a valid "gotcha".

Trump is going to have fun in China this week. Begging for help and commerce for your oil addiction from a country that is now in the business of selling renewables and EV's. Why on Earth would they intervene in the Iran conflict?

Burgum was the governor of North Dakota. North Dakota powers 36% of its energy production from green energy, mostly wind power. WTF is he talking about?

This is all about messaging to the voters who dont understand some piece of technology and hate it just because the enemy team is in support of it. All for the benefit of mega corporate donors who would loose money if solar took over.
