Red State Governors always seem to be ill prepared. Either they've failed to acquire the right tools or they are over-budget and need to be bailout. Financially, Republicans want Blue States to follow their financial devastated leads. Corporate tax-breaks and zero lawful repercussions. Good luck

During the massive ice storm of 1998, the Canadian army was sent out to help people by clearing roofs and roads and setting up shelters. Maybe the US should take its fascist paramilitaries out of places they’re not wanted and force them to make themselves actually useful

This is what happens when you dismantle FEMA and give the 50% of the budget to ICE. Plus doesnt help that there are literal idiots that dont understand basic science leading us.

Gosh, Money spent on private planes, (only for Kristi and Corey to use: his and hers) costumes, weapons, fleets of SUV’s, hair, makeup and hats. no $ for disaster aid, call the Red Cross or maybe Salvation Army. Your church will definitely help, it’s mega and they have most of your money by now

Maybe we could take some of the energy (and $$$) earmarked for Venez-fucking-uela and give if to the good folks in Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana so they can not freeze to death. Good?

We’ve had major power outages from wind storms here in Washington state and our Canadian neighbors from BC bring their electric utility trucks to help us. Now ICE will stop that to make our blue state suffer.

FEMA would be more other things I'd think. Actual restoration of power is all of the utility workers coming in from other states. It probably doesn't help that we also annoyed Canada. I assume their Utility workers are still helping, but who knows.

Our power system is woefully out of date, but ice is about the worst thing possible for it, since it weighs down the lines and they break. The only normally feasible way to be prepared is a generator with local fuel or a fairly extensive solar/battery setup.

A lot of solar systems aren't designed to work without grid power, but some do, and all would work with a generator. Add in batteries and you can certainly keep a house going indefinitely, though a lot may have to be off. That is a lot of money for a low odds event.

There is whole lot of hate in these comments for regional politics. It’s important for folks to understand the worst damage in TN is in Nashville. Hundreds of thousands without power for days on end in very cold temps. Nashville is a reliably blue city. We asked for aid. It’s hasn’t been approved.

I saw a comment on a post from Peter Frampton about the damage, someone ripping him for living in Nashville which they thought indicated Republican politics. I loathe being lumped in with the rest of this godforsaken red state.

If only we had a president who cared about people instead of ballrooms and renovating the Kennedy Center. Oh and his wife’s ego documentary.

You might think the electorate of these 3 state might try out something new next Election Day. Are any of your representatives doing anything to help you? As that famous scientist said …. “the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results”

Just had a friend in Nashville area get her electricity on after 8 difficult, languishing days. Luckily her water pipes stayed intact; others in her neighborhood not so lucky. House temps were in the 40s F. And she had no communication re: timeline of repair.

Im not saying I want this for them, but a lot of folks in those states voted for Trump's destruction of government agencies that would be helping them right now.

And yet they would somehow blame Biden for the storm, power outages, and inflation, and gleefully vote for Trump again because their Pastor told them Trump was Jesus reborn with beautiful blond hair.

“On election night, Tennessee voted Republican for former president Donald Trump by a wide margin for the third time in a row, with him winning the state by 29.7%, a considerable increase from his 23.2% victory in 2020 and to a lesser extent his 26% victory in 2016.”

Hey? Citizens that didn’t ask for any of this are fucking dying you gloating sack of shit. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself. Go think about why you’re such a miserable piece of shit and then get in the car and close the garage door

But, that’s not as critical as remodeling the Kennedy Center (which didn’t need remodeling until the Melania ”documentary” bombed, and numerous cancellation).

Why should TRAITOR tRump care about helping Americans when he can spend tax payers’ money on bulldozing the East Wing, building a ballroom to entertain the uber wealthy, building an arch that will tower over everything else in DC, remodel the Kennedy Center, and sue the IRS for $10 billion. #FAFO

Gee .. Trump shitting himself and dismissing his fluffer blondes. Oh, and the Nazis in charge in-fighting over who will take the fall over the extra-judicial killings of citizens and the emerging horrors of their concentration camps. Maybe don’t vote for Nazis.

The South, where everyone pulls themselves up by their bootstraps and wants nothing less than big bad gub'ment to get involved, right? Tots & pears!!

If I can recall somebody called Matt Ygelasis wanted fossil fuels to flourish to help with 2.5 micro particles endangering humans and fail when climate dishes us ice storm which would not happen with renewables! And NYT allowed this write up! bsky.app/profile/janr...

Will electrostates or petrostates rule the world in the future? I spoke to Times Radio over the weekend on this topic. youtu.be/WX-11uNi17s

Don lucked out with no hurricanes making landfall last year. Was it Tulsi who credited Don in one of his Oval Office nap meetings with keeping the storms away from US?

In all fairness, Louisiana pols have all been partying in DC at the Mardi Gras festivities. Last thing you want to think about is a bunch of cold poor people when there are elbows to be rubbed & hobs to be knobbed.

Maybe if this nation allocated more money to INFRASTRUCTURE, INFRASTRUCTURE, INFRASTRUCTURE this wouldn't be as much of an issue. Keep voting righty Tenny, Missy & Louis

Gee, @nytimes.com, if ONLY the most now-formerly respected newspaper in the country hadn't torn down the administration that was actually helping people, in favor of slamming their Old Gray Thumb on the scales for the traitorous criminal who now spends tax dollars shooting citizens in the face.
