whether it’s just AI slop being AI slop, or workers “quiet quitting” and making slop, the fault is still on the employers for creating that environment. bosses need to admit to themselves that this is the best that AI can offer. cut your losses and respect your workers.

This isn't the workers fault, they're having crap software shoved down their throats and forced into their workflows with zero thought on how it'd actually improve anything. What other end result are you expecting?

interesting that you attribute the creation of workslop to employees when employees have always been capable of producing low-effort work. It's AI that produces workslop. AI is the new element here: AI is responsible.

Well because you only get the productivity enhancing output of LLMs if you have them write code for you, which means your workers have to at least be able to run python on their laptops. Otherwise you're asking the LLM to do things that it cannot do itself. It can write you useful code though.

Research: low food service profitability gains from dull rusty knives may stem from chefs being forced to use dull rusty knives to produce "foodslop", or low-effort, passable "food" that looks like shit (Harvard Business Review)

Workers are calling it "quiet doing what my boss insisted against my advice."

There is business value in replacing human support (which may on occasion be actually helpful) with AI that just keeps customers busy until they give up.

When the choice is to use AI to get bad results or waste more time fixing those bad results than you would have spent doing it yourself, I'd submit the AI slop too. Why force people to use dogshit tools and get mad when you get dogshit?

Can we just cut to the chase? We all know AI was Overpromised and like Self Driving Cars will be Underdelivered. You've suck up all the money already and built the server farms. Tell your investors all the servers will be used to mine crypto now & let us all get on with our lives.

Have you considered that everything AI produces is slop. Its just slop. If you dont want slop then stop using the slop machine. Reward human beings for engaging with and solving problems by paying them well rather than trying to encourage them to use the tools you plan to have replace them.

Just for japes, for funnies, for the sake of it.. let's play along and say that this is the problem, (rather than AI-tools being crappy.) If the problem is that employees are using AI-tools to produce trash, what's the remedy? hmm? Surely the remedy is to ban use of these tools in the workplace.

There's a quote attributed to Keynes: "The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent." I think we'll have flavours of nonsense like this for a while to come before the industry finally admits they've been playing pass-the-parcel with an empty box.
