Post

I'm now post Google and anything made in capitalist America. Life is better. I'm volunteering with young people and doing my best to give back to society. I've got an EV and solar. I buy local. My vaccines are up to date, as is my first aid training. Democratic socialism rocks!!!

This rules! Are yall focused only on written crit? Or do you accept whatever as long as it’s RSS? I do video but I don’t always post them to my blog.

If you have a blog, submit that! I don’t think standalone YouTube channels or podcasts quite fit the remit — I feel like people engage with them differently and there’s some existing infrastructure around visibility (charts, playlists) that personal websites don’t get, which we’re hopefully filling

Love it! If I could make a request as someone on the reader side: Could Warp Point have an RSS feed *itself*? Whether it's new sites added, highlighted articles/pages from members, or a mix. I'd like to go through the site list, just not right now, which means I'm likely to forget even if bookmarked

I think that's a thing webrings were missing: user-enabled tracking. While on a webring'd site I could click thru to other sites but, if I don't visit often, will forget about them. Having them come into my RSS reader, however, nigh-guarantees I'll at least glance at them.

I want a search engine that, when Im at work (even at home), looking for a manufacturer, or product, or just information, it gives me the information like it used to, as a list, without targeted advertisements, paid promotions, pop-up ads and spam-clutter bullshit.

As someone who grew up with personal sites, webrings and directories, this is kinda nostalgic. Definitely gonna check out some of the sites listed here at some point.

I've been thinking about something like this but for artists. And in my next big personal website update I'm bringing back my "Resources" Link list page, like we all used to have. They think we're captive to them but we remember a time before Google etc's walled gardens.

You should! I also just made a fan artist's link list not long ago, exactly the same reasons. I loved them then for how much it helped me find new people to follow and, once I left Instagram, I was shocked at how hard it was to find people's sites without that account.

A week later, we've got more than 170 indie gaming sites on Warp Point and have pushed out a few little updates (thanks to the sleepless @macka1080.itch.io!) to troubleshoot RSS and add better sorting. Apologies to anyone still in the queue I haven't gotten to yet!

In the queue! We haven't approved any non-English blogs yet as we need to make some backend changes to categories for them, but I do want to include them.

Cool! I guessed you didn't plan for us ^^ I also wonder how I'll be able to edit my entry if I ever want to change a url or the logo?

Big thanks to everyone who joined up while we were tinkering and polishing! Take a look at the directory and share with a friend. I guarantee there's already a great blog in there you haven't read. Now that we're open, I hope the RSS feeds flow until we've linked hundreds of indie sites together.

Yeah. At this point, combined with the death of net neutrality and the enshitification of search engines, the environmentally destructive drive of data centres and a number of other facts, including that social media is neither social nor media and instead 100% manipulation - it is fair to say that

i remember when searching for something using Alta Vista or one of the other "search engines" was a hit or miss, and mostly miss, thing. Google was a spectacular step up and, at the time, well worth the minor product placement. today, i mostly use DuckDuckGo. Google Scholar is also less useful

There are dozens! We're not bundling every site up into a single feed though; we want people to explore, check out the sites that interest them and subscribe directly :)
