…and it doesn’t and they don’t. Developing 100 units? In the US that’ll get one, maybe two elevators. In Switzerland they’re cheap so they’ll break the site up into separate point access blocks and buy eight elevators.

Some (engineers) hate that I keep making these videos. So be it. Here you can see acoustic foam like @ the nightclub 😱 vs a falling apart (!) offcut of a straw insulation board, worst case scenario! I got a call yesterday from someone who wanted to unite the construction transition initiatives in the capital, which is cool. But the real construction transition is coming from the countryside.

"Look, nobody rides more bikes than I do. I rode 10,000 kilometres last year," brags Bradford. He says he's "the only candidate that has a plan to build new cycling infrastructure — we're just going to do it in our ravine network."

This election will be decided by turnout. The richest, greediest, most selfish cranks in this city will definitely vote, so it's up to us to make sure we get a government that actually represents the people.

Madeleine Bonsma-Fisher, PhD@mbonsma.bsky.social

Talk to your friends and family about voting! Not everyone is as tuned in as all you nerds and a simple "hey how are you feeling about the election on Monday" can go a long way. Maybe they forgot when it was, or they're not sure if they're eligible, or don't know where to get candidate info. #TOpoli

I'm gonna allow this one bc El-Sayed seems pretty cool and hot but let's keep the hockey on the DL please. especially as bike racing season ramps down, let's keep it locked up

you know how sidewalks and bike lanes are routinely blocked so that construction companies can put up signs warning drivers of road closures? turns out if you want to just set up in the middle of a school crosswalk with no safety controls or humans present, that's also fine

what if we paused agricultural every winter to save on the energy required to grow literally every calorie in a heated greenhouse with artificial light?

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

NEW BRIGHT SPOTS: Industrial overcapacity is usually treated as waste. But what if it's a hidden grid asset? E.g. aluminium smelters that pause every winter to give grids the seasonal flexibility they lack. I'm not sold yet. But it's worth a look. janrosenow.substack.com/p/could-indu...

This virtual private clinic in BC charges exorbitant fees for basic blood tests that are publicly covered. A core part of the sales pitch is lying about how testing works in the public system. Preventative routine screening IS COVERED - this is essential primary care that FPs/NPs do regularly.

I have to do a home repair project today that requires buying PVC plumbing supplies. It sucks that I spent all these years running my mouth about bikes. Now I need to go buy a truck before the project can begin.

just an fyi, this is the position of keanin loomis, who wants to be mayor of Hamilton. Andrea Horwath used her strong mayor powers to break a tie in favour of turning a small part of a parking lot into housing; he wants to go back and reverse that specific decision to put it "somewhere else"

I was kinda puzzling about who to vote for but someone sent me onac.ca which... I can't say is a particularly good or bad website but it did remind me that Loomis is a political opportunist who will take on clown positions to win favour. hard pass!

and it's not like traffic cameras were ubiquitous. Toronto had like 50 across 1000s of kms of roadway. we were barely trying them!

Canada Ministry of Pedestrians@minpedca.bsky.social

How's that speed camera ban going in Ontario? - 30 traffic fatalities in Ottawa so far this year, exceeding the 23 total fatalities in 2025 - Toronto on track for a five year traffic fatality high. - Windsor reporting "staggering" number of injury crashes this year www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

important to remember that the point of all of this is so a handful of AI firms can race to grab the biggest share of the market and monopolize their space. we could be doing this at 1/100th the scale of we wanted to

It has been brought to our attention that it is entirely possible Doug Ford does not understand that a podcast called "The War on Cars" might be in favor of things like protected bike lanes.

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social

We recorded an episode today about the bike lane removals in Toronto and decided to text Ontario Premier Doug Ford to give him the opportunity to comment. (Yes, we have his real phone number.) He wrote back.

"where Doug Ford regularly goes" is the best predictor of provincial policy. * highway to Muskoka * private jet access from queens park to Ottawa via billy bishop * tunnel under 401 for motorcades * absolutely no bike lanes I could ever see * no tolls (407 is fine, I have tunnel)

ℳatt@matttomic.bsky.social

As a reminder, the entire reason this specific bike lane is somehow under the purview of the Provincial Government is because our moron Premier has to pass it on his way to his job (on the rare days he goes to work) and the sight of a cyclist passing his SUV in traffic makes his blood BOIL

if I could pay $9 to drive to downtown Toronto and not encounter between 10-150 minutes of congestion... that would be amazing!

Tom Flood@tomflood.bsky.social

Congestion Pricing via @uoftcities.bsky.social @lanrickbennett.bsky.social www.thestar.com/news/gta/cit...

I straightforwardly think this is the wrong framing. congestion pricing is good for YOU if you drive, because it's going to push OTHER PEOPLE onto transit, making the Important Driving better. the goal is to make roads work for the things for which transit doesn't substitute: trades, deliveries etc.
