Check out how easy this is.
Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

Eternally proud of Thorns fans’ response to these industrial strength anti-trans shit stirrers. Don’t start something with the Riveters. You won’t be able to finish it. (The other contemporaneous chant was “terfs fuck off.”)
Some hateful folks in the North End have their messaging blocked by flags and lead to a “Trans Lives Matter” chant

In the 1800s, people used to roll out picnics to watch public executions in the Pacific Northwest. That followed a history of lynchings. I wrote about the death penalty in this moment and Oregon's loudest voice against it. leahsottile.substack.com/p/76-an-amer...

Ivan Turgenev's "Execution of Troppmann" is a short essay, published in 1870, that gives a first-hand account of the writer attending a public execution in Paris. Turgenev's details how the drunk, unruly crowd turned a somber moment into a carnival. A deeply moving essay; I encourage you to read it.
Pete Hegseth says Americans will be able to watch a Trump-approved firing-squad execution. If he follows through, the U.S. could join a disturbing club of countries known for public executions—including Iran, Afghanistan, and North Korea.

I think people should listen to what the administration trying to bring back spectacle lynchings, race riots, and middle passage-esque deportation voyages are trying to tell you about themselves. bsky.app/profile/bren...
The news just since I left work: -A planned livestream of an execution by firing squad -Trump basically trying to incite a pogrom against Somalis Nothing mysterious or complicated about what's happening.

Pennsylvania and New York abolished public executions in 1834–35, and by the mid-1840s they had been abolished across the east coast and Midwest scholarworks.law.ubalt.edu/cgi/viewcont...

Furman v. Georgia, 408 U.S. 238, 297 (1972) (Brennan, J., concurring) “No longer does our society countenance the spectacle of public executions, once thought desirable as a deterrent to criminal behavior by others. Today we reject public executions as debasing and brutalizing to us all.“

All prisoners should have the right to vote while in prison
Arguably the biggest democracy referendum next month: Virginia is one of only three states where the state constitution says people should lose their right to vote FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE if they are convicted of any felony. This measure would allow anyone to vote after prison.

Vacating a stay of execution, and without even a word, is in-sane and horrific (Yes I know they've done similar shit before, that was wildly fucked up too)
BREAKING: SCOTUS’s Republican appointees will allow Tennessee to kill Christa Pike tonight, vacating a stay of execution entered by the Sixth Circuit this morning. The three Democratic appointees dissent.

NEW: After the Sixth Circuit, on a 2-1 vote, issued "a short stay of execution" this morning to consider Christa Pike's claims before the court, Tennessee quickly has gone to the Supreme Court seeking to vacate the stay — and allow the state to kill Pike today. www.documentcloud.org/documents/28...

Portland has The soccer culture in the US and that soccer culture is a trans flag with the three arrows superimposed on it. They can fucking try
I tried here to explain why anti-trans activists are targeting Portland, the struggle I have with covering some of these issues as a reporter and how transgender athletes belong in sports. Exclusion is incompatible with equity.

Belfi Rivera was 14 when the Diamondbacks made a handshake deal that would pay him $1.8M after he turned 16. But he saw almost none of it. $630K went to a trainer who brokered the deal, and $950K+ went to a lender whose business partner is Red Sox legend David Ortiz. New, @propublica.org

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.
ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
