Umar Kremlëv, a man with multiple felony convictions, a long track record of working on special tasks for Vladimir Putin, and little ability to speak English. The remote rendezvous in August highlights the remarkable relationship between a son of the US president and a Kremlin agent.

It's hard to believe but Democrats ran for decades against the "Bush tax cuts" and then made most of them permanent. Then ran against the "Trump tax cuts" and then didn't repeal them either.

Every single one of these prior declinations was done under Trump. Every single one of these new charges involves a promotion of the person who indicted. He also has nominated two of the EDNC players to be judges.

emptywheel@emptywheel.bsky.social

Depending on how you count, the charges Trump has filed against Comey have been declined 5X: Lying abt leaking to Richman: Declined in 2019, EDVA declined, then Halligan charged 8647: USSS declined to charge, then charged in EDNC Yahoo: declined by John Durham 2017, then again by Barr in 2020

That’s also why Vivek isn’t exactly lying when he says he didn’t mean to say Acton lied about being raped as a child. He doesn’t think she lied; he thinks that being raped disqualifies her from office, because she belongs to the class of people power is wielded against, not the class that wields it.

@literaryhub.bsky.social Fuck off with this nonsense. People do what they want to do. They don't do what they don't want to do. People have moral agency. Fascist racists are fascist racists because they want to be, not because anyone "made them" or because democracy was drunk.

NEWS: A new report reveals Trump’s personal oil and gas holdings have nearly doubled in value, now worth as much as $81.6 million compared to as much as $46 million last year.   The President is profiting off Americans' suffering. And he couldn't be prouder.

Their letter calls out her five votes to let Trump continue the war with Iran and her votes to confirm the officials carrying out his tariff agenda—decisions that are driving up costs for Maine families. I’m honored to have their support. Mainers deserve a senator who will stand up for them.

It is both very unlikely Trump will personally succeed at establishing a full-blown dictatorship before he's gone, and also the case that Trump's tenure in American politics has massively increased the chance this country will have a full-blown dictatorship at some point in the next 30 or 40 years.

The first step was halting authoritarian consolidation. The second step is protecting the vote and the election. The third step is going on offense.

Note: In 2016 Trump won with the help of coordinated messaging amplified by bots. He still relies on that coordinated messaging, tho the Epstein schism undermined that some. But this SEEMS to say you don't stay off Xitter and Facebook--you coordinate to game it.

Pro-Lula Brazilians doing en masse digital organizing against the platforms is interesting. Basically took website/influencer growth hacking techniques—eg everyone go like/comment/share this, get the algorithm to pick it up—and applied them to electoral politics at a grand scale. Thread:

This drives me CRAZY. I grew up playing sports w/ boys. I played on a U12 boys select soccer team, b4 switching to a U12 girls team that kept beating us. Nobody had any issue with any of it. Youth sports have never had the strict sex/gender boundaries that “XX-XY” activists are now trying to defend.

Andrew D Thaler@drandrewthaler.bsky.social

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

Holy crap, it just occurred to me: Vucic losing in Serbia may not only end the deals Jr & Eric (& Lewandowski)* made in Serbia, it may _expose_ them. *I’m not sure but I think Javanka got in on those deals.

Dana Houle@danahoule.bsky.social

I’d say Trump isn’t as good at influencing foreign elections as Putin, but I dunno, the Serbia results are a huge defeat for Putin. He’s lost both Orban & Vucic in a year.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Going through old notes today, I was reminded that the NY Times' Peter Baker wrote in January that Trump had "changed the definition of normal." It helps us understand NYT's shortcomings when we realize it accepts the idea that Trump gets to decide what's normal.

Trump detests the free enterprise system. He believes in a Soviet-style command economy with total government control. He favors foreign trade based on bribery. He opposes competition. That's why, when a foreign country like Taiwan manufactures a product, Trump says they're "stealing" our business.

this is just bad political communication period. with a profoundly unpopular president, you put out an ad to indicate just how aligned you are with his views on an issue that is not even in the top 100 for most voters?

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.
